PBS Programs Receive Three Imagen Awards
Winners for the 27th Annual Imagen Awards were announced, and PBS programs received three awards for "honoring positive portrayals of Latinos and Latino culture in entertainment." The ceremony was held August 10 at the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel and will air September 23 on PBS SoCal.
FRONTLINE's "Lost In Detention," which looks at immigration enforcement strategies and the world of immigrant detention, was named Best National Informational Program. GREAT PERFORMANCES' "Il Postino From LA Opera" won the honor of Best Variety or Reality Show. The opera by composer Daniel Catán features world-renowned tenor Plácido Domingo. The third trophy went to NOAH COMPRENDE (renamed OH NOAH! in season two) for Best Web Series: Comedy. The PBS KIDS GO! series helps teach Spanish through animated videos with embedded games.
In addition to the three PBS winners, member station PBS SoCal won an award for Best On-Air Advertising for "Community Champion: Rueben Martinez."
