PBS, WGBH Announce Major New Mystery! Package
Geraldine McEwan to Star as Miss Marple
Los Angeles, CA; July 8, 2004 - Four new episodes of "Miss Marple" head the list of programs slated for PBS' popular MYSTERY! series. Based on the beloved books by Agatha Christie, "Miss Marple" is one of three brand-new series scheduled for MYSTERY! in the 2005-06 season. The others are "Malice Aforethought," a black comedy, and "Jericho," an original detective story set in the 1950s.
"'Miss Marple,' 'Malice Aforethought' and 'Jericho' continue the tradition of excellent British thrillers, and are sure to become favorites of our MYSTERY! fans," commented series executive producer Rebecca Eaton.
Starring Geraldine McEwan (Gosford Park, The Magdalene Sisters) as Ms. Christie's famous spinster sleuth, the first of the "Miss Marple" films, "The Body in the Library," recently completed production in England. Three more will follow: "A Murder is Announced," "Murder at the Vicarage" and "The 4:50 from Paddington."
The two-parter "Malice Aforethought" centers on a popular country doctor whose ill-conceived decision to murder his "difficult" wife sets his life spinning out of control.
In "Jericho," Robert Lindsay (Oliver Twist, Horatio Hornblower) stars as the renegade Detective Inspector Michael Jericho, one of Scotland Yard's most revered officers. The four episodes reflect the turbulent period of social upheaval during the late 1950s through the eyes of DI Jericho.
"Miss Marple" is a co-production of London Weekend Television, WGBH Boston and Agatha Christie Ltd. "Malice Aforethought" is a co-production of Granada Television and WGBH Boston, and "Jericho" is a co-production of London Weekend Television and WGBH Boston.
