to Come
PBS and public television stations, working together, have a unique and powerful role in our communities, as the programs highlighted in the fiscal year reported here amply demonstrate. On air and online, public television has set the standard for media excellence as we reach out to reflect, to serve, and to build a nation of citizens.
From capturing America's pioneer spirit with the Frontier House, to introducing children to Asian culture with Sagwa the Chinese Siamese Cat, to seeing ourselves in the drama of American Family and the captivating contemporary stories in Life 360, PBS programming this year connects us to our heritage, connects us to our world, and connects us to each other.
It is a connection that promotes engagement in civic life and honors the values of our democratic society. We are strengthening that connection with informative and relevant programs like NOW with Bill Moyers, a weekly series on topical issues that will help us make sense of the new world we live in, and a series of documentaries that look at environmental challenges confronting our treasured landscape and our way of life. To engage the next generation of citizens, we are reaching out to children with a message reflecting our nation's founding principle: that solutions to problems are always found through dialogue and participation, understanding and action. For example, this year ZOOM will be showcasing children with an appetite for civic volunteer projects in new program segments produced by local public television stations and incorporated into the national production of this popular series.
PBS remains committed to delivering on our mission and ensuring that this valuable programming can reach all Americans, with universal access to public television in all communities, around the clock. As technology advances, we must continue to be at the forefront, ensuring that the public's voice and the public's values are served and not obscured. From personal video recorders to wireless and other coming wonders of communication, PBS must be there. And we will be.
