April 2, 2007, ARLINGTON, VA – PBS President & CEO, Paula Kerger announced, today, the appointment of Linda Brown, co-Founder and President of the Ridgestone Foundation to the PBS Foundation Board of Directors. Brown will be seated at the next meeting of the PBS Foundation Board of Directors on Monday, June 11.

“The addition of Linda to our Board is a tremendous asset,” said Cheri Carter, PBS Foundation Executive Director. “Her relationships in a multitude of communities – from the philanthropic universe to the art world – are unparalleled and her passion for public television, the arts and education is truly inspiring. We are honored to have her as our newest champion.”

“I am very pleased to be joining the Board of the PBS Foundation,” said Linda Brown. “For many years public television has been part of my life through children's programming, the arts and the rich and diverse opportunities that we all continue to enjoy. I look forward to working with the Board to secure those opportunities for others to enjoy for many years to come.”

As President of the Ridgestone Foundation, a private foundation founded in 1998 with her husband Abbott, she focuses on innovative projects that have included the construction of a rehabilitation facility for the severely disabled at California State University at Northridge, a distinguished speaker’s series directed toward a private high school audience, and the establishment of an inner city charter school that is ranked in the top tier of California state charter schools. She received the Robert Abell Philanthropic Award from the Los Angeles Commission on Disabilities. Brown attended the University of California at Irvine and is a graduate of California State University at Northridge with a specialty in Chinese History.

The PBS Foundation was formed in 2004 for the purpose of helping PBS thrive in this world of ever expanding digital technology and myriad media choices. Working collaboratively and cooperatively with member stations, the PBS Foundation provides a mechanism for seeking, cultivating and receiving extraordinary major gifts and grants at the national level.

The Foundation is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a 509(a)(3) supporting organization to PBS. The Foundation is governed by its own Board of Directors comprised of top national leaders committed to securing significant support for PBS.
