TIM BISCHOFF NAMED PBS COMMUNICATIONS
PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR

ARLINGTON, VA, November 30, 2009 - Lesli Rotenberg, Senior Vice President, Brand Management and Promotion and Children’s Media, announced that Tim Bischoff, Director of Marketing and Communications for Kentucky Educational Television (KET), is the winner of the 2009 Communications Professional of the Year Award. The award was presented by Ms. Rotenberg at the annual meeting of the Communications Advisory Committee at PBS headquarters in Arlington, VA. The two-day meeting brings together station professionals from across the nation. The award recognizes an individual who has distinguished herself or himself in the field of communications and promotion and has demonstrated excellence in leadership in the public television community.

“From production duties in promotion to a senior manager running a new communications and marketing unit, Tim has proved himself a leader who sees the ‘big picture’ and always works towards that goal,” said KET Executive Director Malcolm (Mac) Wall. “He has embraced research by conducting many focus groups, all of which created our ‘Explore Kentucky, Explore the World’ branding campaign that launched in 2006. Tim is thoughtful, circumspect, generous to all and competent to a fault. He is our major ‘go to guy.’”

“Over the last few years, Tim has taken on an increasingly prominent leadership role within the system,” noted Ms. Rotenberg. “Tim has also been on the cutting edge of station branding and promotion. He has successfully leveraged the local/national KET and PBS identities into a distinctive and powerful media brand in Kentucky and has employed it across platforms — from pledge break messaging to on-air spots — to increase support for KET.”

Timothy Bischoff is the Director of Communications and Marketing for Kentucky Educational Television. He leads a cross-divisional staff in developing, creating and implementing KET’s communications, marketing, branding, promotion and public relations strategies through video, print, online and multimedia platforms. In addition, Bischoff serves as KET’s Creative Director and as Executive Producer of on-air fundraising/pledge.

Prior to his current role, Bischoff led KET’s on-air image team and served as producer/director of arts, documentary and instructional programs. Nationally distributed programs include “The Everlasting Stream” (PBS), “Classical Discovery” (NETA) and “DanceSense” (NETA).

Bischoff began his public television career at WKYU-TV in Bowling Green, KY. A Louisville native, he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree (broadcasting major, writing minor) from Western Kentucky University. He lives in Lexington with his wife, Stephanie, and their two sons.
