SUMMARY
These lesson plans and classroom activities have been
designed for use with the television program, Cuba: Paradox
Found (PBS Original National Broadcast March 31, 2000).
The lessons are designed around viewing the video, but it
is not necessary for students to have viewed the television
series to complete the lessons. Although the lessons are written
for middle and high school level students, some lessons could
be modified for elementary level children; each lesson also
could be modified and conducted at home.
Each of the four lessons includes: recommended time needed
to complete the lesson, a list of necessary materials, clear
objectives, a teaching strategy, assessment recommendations,
extension and adaptation ideas, and relevant national standards.
Some of the lessons have corresponding, downloadable Student
Activity Sheets that can be printed, copied, and distributed
to students.
EDUCATIONAL
GOALS
Each lesson is designed to create a greater understanding
of Cuba, as well as encourage students to recognize the differences
and similarities between nations. The goals of the lessons
align with national curriculum standards in history, geography,
language arts, and social studies.
