1951-1953
The Majles approves the nationalization of the oil industry, including
the Brits' beloved BP, enraging the west. Elected Premier, Mohammed
Mossadeq seeks to limit the Shah's power. Anti-western sentiment grows.
By 1953, the Shah, with CIA backing, dismisses Mossadeq. He is replaced
with the ineffectual General Zahedi, allowing the Shah to reestablish
his power. U.S. government files on this joint U.S./British "OPERATION"
remain "lost" to this day. |
