bowdoin college museum of art

In August 2001, the Bowdoin College Museum of Art in Maine held a screening of Art:21 for alumni and donors. When 210 people responded to the event planned for 100, a second screening room needed to be opened to accommodate everyone. Prior to the screening, guests enjoyed a tented outdoor dinner under the setting sun of a clear Maine summer night in the Bowdoin Quadrangle, after which the Bowdoin President, Barry Mills, and Museum Director and Art21 Advisory Council member, Katy Kline, spoke about the series. The reaction to the screening was overwhelmingly positive; the audience laughed and clapped at Laurie Anderson’s introduction, listened to artists like Richard Serra and Ann Hamilton, and enjoyed new artists such as John Feodorov. Susan Dowling (Executive Producer to Season One) and Laura Recht (former Director of Education and Outreach) attended the event to introduce the series and answer questions raised by the audience.
