Public screenings of “Art:21—Art in the Twenty-First Century” engage new audiences and deepen their appreciation, understanding, and familiarity with contemporary art and artists, and the issues they address in their work. Screenings can be targeted at broad public audiences or tailored for particular groups such as teachers, museum docents, youth groups, or scholars. Many exhibition venues choose to focus on a particular artist, while other institutions address a specific question or theme central to their own mission or programming. Museums, galleries, community-based organizations, local arts councils, and libraries have all held diverse public programs

new york city: season 4 premiere events

In conjunction with the worldwide premiere of Season 4 of
“Art:21—Art in the Twenty-First Century”—the only primetime national television series to focus exclusively on contemporary art and artists—Art:21 featured events at nine of New York’s finest cultural institutions. These programs offered sneak previews of the new season, along with the opportunity to meet featured Art:21 artists and listen to them speak about their work.

“Art21 offers viewers an intimate view of the processes of an artist in the studio, a private arena that is almost never accessible to the public,” says Susan Sollins, Executive Producer and Curator. “The series also allows the viewer to learn directly from the artist; there is no overlay of opinion or interpretation from an outsider. We hope that audiences will take away from the series and the events a confidence that they can look at art on their own, and an understanding of the complex skills and knowledge that artists bring to their work.”
