Formed under the artistic direction of cellist Yo-Yo Ma in 2000, the Silk Road Ensemble gathers distinguished performers and composers from more than 20 countries to explore contemporary multicultural musical crossroads. THE SILK ROAD ENSEMBLE WITH YO-YO MA: LIVE FROM TANGLEWOOD captures the celebration of the group's 15 years together, with performances from the Silk Road Suite and others.

Muiñeiras from Cancionero (05:52)

The Silk Road Ensemble performs "Muiñeiras from Cancionero" from the Silk Road Suite, composed by Spanish-born Silk Road Ensemble performer Cristina Pato. The muiñeira is the traditional dance of Galiciaa community in northwest Spain—and is traditionally practiced with Galician bagpipes called gaita. The performance combines two popular muiñeiras and culminates in a celebration of the joy of togetherness.

Shristi (08:05)

The Silk Road Ensemble performs Shristi by Silk Road Ensemble performer and composer Sandeep Das. The percussion piece "enacts the creation of the universe by Shiva and his drum."

Taranta Project (18:10)

The Silk Road Ensemble performs Taranta Project by Italian composer Giovanni Sollima. Silk Road Ensemble performer Eric Jacobsen describes the piece, which includes body percussion, as a "wild romp in Sicilia on a Vespa."
