"People forget that Jackie Robinson emancipated all players not just Americans players. There were forty-five Latin players that played in the big leagues before Jackie Robinson did. And after Jackie Robinson there was a great generation of players from Latin America who changed the game in their own way, brought a certain style, a certain flare and all of a sudden Spanish was being spoken in the clubhouse and then we began to discover that there were these great histories of baseball in Cuba and Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and they had their own histories, their own legends."
