Elkhorn Slough OtterCam Highlights
The Elkhorn Slough OtterCam is located in the channels of the largest salt marsh on California's central coast. With counts exceeding 100 animals, Elkhorn Slough has the highest concentration of southern sea otters on the California coast. It is in this estuary habitat that researchers have observed sea otter behavior not seen in other sea otter populations. The Elkhorn Slough OtterCam is a joint program of Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve, Elkhorn Slough Foundation and Friends of the Sea Otter that allows the public to view sea otters in the sheltered channels of the Elkhorn Slough.
The Elkhorn Slough estuary is home to harbor seals, 100 different fish species, more than 300 resident and migratory bird species, and the largest concentration of Southern sea otters. Nearly 5,300 acres of rare habitat from wetlands to maritime chaparral surrounding the estuary are protected by the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve and the Elkhorn Slough Foundation.
