About the Database
Imagine a scientist. What comes to mind? Is it a man in a white coat, working in a laboratory? Is it a female astrophysicist who is discovering the latest knowledge about dying stars? Is it a person working alone in a room full of tubes and bubbling fluids? Could a scientist be someone like you?The institutions, activities, and resources detailed in this database offer students, teachers, and parents the opportunity to experience engineering, science, and mathematics first-hand. The BreakThrough database lists contact information and detailed descriptions of informal science programs in 31 cities across the countries. A lists of national organizations active in science education is also searchable.
Most of the listed programs and courses are free, or have a small charge. All offer exceptional exposure to the world of science - whether it be a local science exhibit the family can enjoy together; a summer enrichment program for students at a local college campus; or a teacher training workshop on innovative ways to make science more exciting in the classroom.
