Robert Lavelle

Project Director

Robert Lavelle has overseen all phases of electronic and book publishing for Blackside, Inc. since 1986. In that time he has produced award-winning products for the home and education marketplace (including tradebooks, interactive laser discs, searchable web sites, and soon, a CD-ROM reference tool). He was a co-founder of New Learning Project, Inc., (a multimedia production company now called Illumina Productions). In 1995 he established a consulting company in Holliston, Massachusetts called Woodland Press.

Based on his research into the social impact of communications technology, he is a frequent consultant to producers and educational institutions. Earlier in his career, Lavelle was a senior editor at Addison-Wesley Publishing Company.

For the BreakThrough publishing and education project, Lavelle served as the project director. He developed the campaign with three goals in mind: first, that it be accessible in as broad an array of media as possible; second, that the media be designed to support the existing infrastructure of science education; and third, that the media encourage relationships between scientists and students (and not attempt to be a substitute for those relationships). He can be reached at: rlavelle@msn.com.
