Martha Fowlkes

Vice President, Development

Martha Fowlkes manages Blackside's fundraising, program development, and promotional activities. She has directed fundraising campaigns for recent PBS projects, including The Great Depression, Malcolm X: Make It Plain, America's War on Poverty and BreakThrough: The Changing Face of Science in America. She also manages the promotional activities for Blackside's projects, working with the presenting station, independent publicists and public relations firms. Program development initiatives include BreakThrough; I'll Make Me A World, Blackside's upcoming series on African-American artists in the 20th century; and Hopes on the Horizon: The Rise of the New Africa, a collaboration between Blackside and African filmmakers. Before coming to Blackside in 1989, Martha worked as a fundraising consultant, and for numerous educational institutions and organizations in the Boston area.
