Trudi Brown

Writer, Producer, Director

As an executive producer of WHYY/Philadelphia, Trudi Brown devloped and produced two award-winning national broadcasts of actual surgeries. At WCAU-TV, a CBS station, she produced a prime-time weekly public affairs series and a daily live studio show; she also produced, wrote, and directed Operation Understanding, an Emmy-nominated film documenting the journey of six black and six Jewish high school seniors through Africa and Israel. While at WHYY, a PBS station, Brown co-produced one segment of a four-hour series on dinosaurs, which aired on PBS and internationally. Other producing credits include The Black Vote, on African-American voting patterns; An American Lion in Africa, on the Reverend Doctor Leon Sullivan, creator of the Sullivan Principles; and Does Contoversy Belong on Television, a live broadcast exploring television's limits and responsibilities. Brown's work has earned three regional Emmys, CPB Gold and Silver awards, two Columbus International Film Festival awards, a "Best TV Documentary" award from the Society of Professional Journalists, and a National Association of Black Journalists award for Excellence in International Reporting.
