FOURTH OF JULY REFLECTIONS FROM TONY DANZA

Q: What made you decide to accept the invitation to host A Capitol Fourth?

DANZA: I hosted A Capitol Fourth in 1998 and it was one of the big thrills of my life. I also can't wait to work with Walter Painter (the choreographer) on the big opening number.  We have four great dancers and we will get to tap dance in the shadow of the U.S. Capitol to the music of the National Symphony Orchestra!

Q: What do you think is the most important aspect of the “nation’s birthday?”

DANZA: At a time when we are at war and there is so much turmoil in the world it is a good time to remember we are all in this together.  The Fourth of July gives us that opportunity and I am glad to be part of the nation's premier birthday celebration.

Q: What does the Fourth of July mean to you and your family?

DANZA: The Fourth of July has always been a big holiday for my family to spend together.  If there is one bad thing about doing the show it’s that a lot of my friends and family will be someplace else.

Q: Do you have a family tradition or activity that you usually do on the 4th of July?

DANZA:  We set off fireworks.  I know they are not legal and dangerous but oh, how much fun!

Q: Will you be bringing your family to Washington D.C. for the concert and what will you do while you’re in town?

DANZA: I am coming alone as my kids have other things going on.  I will definitely go to the Smithsonian while I’m in Washington.

Q: Is there a special memory you hold of hosting this show in front of the U.S. Capitol in 1998?

DANZA: When I last hosted A Capitol Fourth, I had released a CD titled, "The House I Live In."  It is also the title of what I think is one of the great American songs that was introduced by Sinatra in the 40's after World War II.  In the 1998 show, I got to sing that song with the orchestra in front of the U.S. Capitol.  Wow!

Q: How does it make you feel to share the stage with the likes of Elliott Yamin, Hayden Panettiere, Bebe Neuwirth, Yolanda Adams and the National Symphony Orchestra for this year’s A CAPITOL FOURTH?

DANZA: I am looking forward to working with everyone who will be in this year’s show.  I was rooting for Elliott Yamin on American Idol, I have a crush on Bebe and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone else!

Q: Have you hosted other live televised events before and do you have any tricks you use to ensure it comes off perfectly?

DANZA: Yes I have hosted live shows before and that's for me to know and for you to watch.
