A flashmob is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual action for a brief time, then quickly disperse.

One of the Flashmobs I witnessed took place at the National Mall, couple hundred gathered and carried out a massive pillow fight. Good thing AOLers caught on this tradition and used it to create designs in a quick fashion. Also, its a great deviation from your regular routine and lets you think outside the screen.

Last Friday, Oct 9, PBS Design team had their first flash mob with four participants and four different topics: Photography, Type, Pattern and Colors.

On Friday, July 30th, 2009, the design group from PBS GA decided to take in some art. After perusing the Washington Post for interesting exhibits, we decided on a show that combines the attitude of "street art" with the application of modern art at Irvine Contemporary. A little history of the exhibit from the website:

Conceived as a continuous installation of interior and exterior works, Street/Studio will include both the gallery interior space and the exterior walls and alleys behind Irvine Contemporary. This continuous installation will create a unified view of works created as works for a gallery art space as well as exterior public street murals that work with the location of the neighborhood and the urban environment of Washington, DC.

Street/Studio features the work of artists who have developed their work in this evolving environment, where boundaries, walls, and physical spaces aren't limits but variations for interpreting place, location, and space, activities that artists have always negotiated for making enduring statements.
