By the beginning of the 20th century AD, most of the New Kingdom royal
mummies had been discovered. One king, however, was still missing:
Tutankhamen.
Then, in 1922, the British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered
his tomb in the Valley of the Kings. His find was unique. He had
not only rediscovered Tutankhamen but also unearthed the most fabulous
treasure ever found. 32,000 objects and vast quantities of the gold
of Egypt's empire were buried with the Pharaoh.
