Ask Sid the Science Kid Educational Consultant Kimberly Brenneman

Sid the Science Kid debuted on PBS KIDS last year and has since kept us all laughing and learning. Kimberly Brenneman, PhD applies her research on children's scientific learning as an educational consultant to the show. She  joins us this week to answer your questions about helping kids be budding scientists, just like Sid.

Kimberly is an Assistant Research Professor at Rutgers University's Department of Psychology. She has also authored a book titled "Preschool Pathways to Science: Facilitating Scientific Ways of Thinking, Talking, Doing, and Understanding."

Kimberly's background as a researcher, educator, and mom makes her a perfect guest to accompany this special week of "play date" episodes on Sid the Science Kid. Starting October 12, PBS will air shows that are centered around play dates and how parents can make them as much about learning as they are about play. (check local listings) Parents and teachers can also download a helpful tip sheet all about play dates.

In the meantime, take a look at one of my favorite science lessons from Sid's teacher, Susie. It's all about non-standard measurement and pirates and I think you'll be singing along by the end of the clip.

It's going to be a fun week to for pint-sized scientists (and their parents), so leave your questions for Kimberly and we'll post her answers next week.

Scientific community + kids

Hi Kimberly, I am a teaching artist working with intermediate aged children on a scientific theme. The kids are into it but I cant get the scientific community behind me just yet. Want to bridge the two. Any recommendations?

New character on show and request for SID at our school.

Hi Kimberly.....How do I get Sid and his teacher to come for assembly at my elementary school???...I am the science fair chair at Argonaut Elementary in CA & our kids love science and we have 100% participation...how cool to surprize them with Sid at our science fair!!...Love the show and all he teaches...my own 3,6,9,15,16, and 18 yr olds love ... the cool Dad, hitech mom, fun granma, sid's friends, teache rsuzie and her songs...you have done a brilliant job with the diverse cast only if there was a "desi" "Indian/Pakistani Asian American" kid in there too would totaly rock the world....would love to help with that idea someday!!

Hi Kimberly,

Hope all is fabulous.Thank you for doing an amazing job on Sid the Science Kid--it's such a great show!
Would you be interested in being an educational consultant on a new Science show for tweens?
Thank you so much for your consideration in advance.

All the best,
Shirin
