Ask Singer Josh Groban
Imagine being in New York City for a special taping of the live musical performance show Soundstage. Your ticket says world-famous baritone Josh Groban will be performing, along with friends like award-winning musicians Chris Botti and Herbie Hancock.
PBS happened to tape that special and will be broadcasting it between May 30 and June 6 on stations across the country (check your local listings). Here’s a preview clip of “Josh Groban, An Evening in New York City”:
As an added bonus, Josh Groban is our guest this week on Engage and he’s taking your questions. Groban recorded a message for you to get things started:
Leave your questions below and I’ll choose five for him to answer. Check back next week for his responses.

This may sound like a silly question, but I have always wondered...Why is it that when you open your mouth to sing, such a beautiful sound emerges, and when I do the same thing, the sound is dreadful ? What makes one person able to sing, and another unable to do so...

Hello Josh! Quick question...out of all the concerts you performed at, which one was your best one? The one where you felt you did 110% great?
Music Styles
As a musician and parent, I'm always trying to introduce different types of musical styles to my son while he's still very young in order to expand his understanding of music in general. What kind of music do you remember being played for you as a child and how or what influenced you to become the musician you are today and the genre you are in, especially as you aim to cross different genres?
Energy vibrations
Josh, when you sing I often feel the loving energy vibrations in my heart chakra...I am wondering if you, yourself, feel the vibrations that you send out to the universe... your personality seems to change the moment you finish a song. It's like different Josh Grobans, the body, mind and soul connection!

Question for Josh Groban
I often wonder what it must be like to be recognized around the world for a special talent...in your case, your voice. Like most people,I imagine you grew up in a regular family, went to school, had homework, etc. and then one day, you're out there for the world to see! How does one prepare themselves for this kind of attention and recognition? I've been a fan of your for years, and it's amazing to me how grounded you remain. Please tell me how you do it?

JOSH GROBAN QUESTION
You have been trained vocally. Did you ever receive any training/coaching on how to handle interviews, press, public relations because right from the beginning you were so comfortable at it, it was truly amazing. How do you learn your foreign language songs?
If you do not actually speak Italian, French and Spanish, how do you learn to sing them so beautifully? Do you have a foreign language coach so that you get the pronunciation and inflection right? Even though I don't understand what you're saying in most of them, they're absolutely beautiful--especially the Italian ones! Keep recording them! And come to Jacksonville, FL soon!
Serious question

Allergies
Hi Josh!
I am a singer and I also suffer from seasonal allergies. During allergy season I sometimes find it very difficult to keep my voice in top shape. Antihistamines are so drying! Do you have any problems with allergies, and if so, what do you do to combat them and keep your voice (the best I've ever heard) in good shape?
HI josh,
As a person who is not very good in large groups or crowds myself I was wondering if you get really nervouse before a performance and if have any sort or rituals, meditation or any quirky thing that you do before you go on stage to calm any nerves you may feel and if you can share your secret with us shy ones???

tours
Hello, Josh!
I sent an email to your website but for now this seems a better opportunity to contact you.
I would love to know if you have any tours lined up for 2009-2010. I have searched the web and have found nothing listed. I would enjoy seeing you in concert and feeling the energy from it. I haven't been to a concert since I saw Elvis in 1972!
I would also like to express how much your music means to me. When I am down, all I have to do is listen to some tracks or go to YouTube and watch some videos. I have had a very difficult life and it is continuing to remain challenging for me. I have listened to you in interviews, watched you and your wonderful orchestra and it gives me warmth to see the love that goes into every note from all of you. Please remain humble and always remember where you came from and your life will be a success. You are loved.

High School
Hi Josh! You have said that, in high school, you didn't feel "accepted" or "cool" until you moved to a performing arts school, where your talent was respected. Do you think your work and success as an artist has helped change the "image" of kids interested in music and the arts, and done more to make a new generation feel comfortable with who they are and pursue their dreams?

You have such an amazing voice. I listen to you music everyday. There are 3 songs in particular that I listen,Up to where you are,Remember when it rained and You raise me up. These songs help me remember my son whom I lost a year ago in April he was 20yrs old and his name is Joshua. I'm doing a tribute video in honor of my son and I would love to use one of these songs on his video.I would like to place the video on YouTube and my Facebook page. Would I be able to use one of these songs?
When are you coming to Pittsburgh, PA? I would love to you in concert.

Question: Where do you get your 'inspiration' for your songs? Is it a process, or can you usually finish a song rather quickly and what advice would you give to those who want to write songs?
Thank you so much for being such an incredibly nice person to me when I met you in D.C. two years ago. :)

I have always been greatly inspired by your voice as well as your music. You truly have an incredible talent that is so rare.As a matter of fact, I requested your song "you raise me up" on my wedding day!Seeing you in concert is not only a top priority of mine but is something that I have wanted to do for a really long time! The only thing is,I never know when you are performing in New York. I would LOVE to see you perform live-Are you planning to come to New York and if so When?
Inspiration
I am a speech-language pathologist at a facility for adults with intellectual delays. My work with them greatly influences how I view the world, and how I treat people. How does your life influence your music and your music influence your life?

meeting
Josh,
It is my dream to meet you in person and ask you the questions that I am dying to have the answers to. I saw you in concert in Charlotte, NC back in Sept of 07. You are the most talented musician in the world, and your music reflects depth and feeling that most people do not understand. How could i meet you? My husband and I are huge fans, and I would love to be able to chat with you more than anything!!! I talk about you to other people as if we are friends... LOL
Thanks for sharing your gift with the world, it is a better place for it. -Krista
sincere question, bet others want to know...
Hi, Josh -
Yours is my favorite, resonant, audio-soothing voice ever and I am so moved by the phrasing and emotion you bring to your sound. For that reason, I wondered if you've ever been personally moved by the music, lyric, environment, audience or just your life at that moment so that you have trouble singing a piece? If so, what do you do to keep your voice from breaking? How do you remain so professional and flawless? I sing only for friends and family and the music just takes me away sometimes so I wonder how you stay grounded when such emotion can be attached to music?
Thanks and keep up the heart-
Leslie
Success
Hi Josh
What Characteristics do you think are most important for success and In your experience what is the best philosophy you have found to live by?
Thanks for the music!
Your Wish
Josh, Let me begin by saying I am a GA Grobanite. Saw your wonderful concert in Atlanta. If you could have one wish come true, what would it be & why?
Composing
Josh,
Above all, I love the songs you write yourself/collaborate on best! Your lyrics are introspective and insightful and the melodies are so beautiful and original. As a music major in college, it's especially interesting to me how you compose the music to your songs. Where do the ideas come from? And where or how did you learn to play piano? Your songs just feel so natural in the hands when playing- you have a wonderful gift for writing for the piano! Looking forward to more!!
Thank you and best of luck!
Amanda

Hi Josh,
I'm also a speech-language pathologist. There's a lot of slps who are fans of yours. We love studying the voice and you're our favorite subject! I have a quick question. Do you see an slp and an ent for "routine maintenance?" May God continue to bless you. Love ya!
Uplifting shows
I just wondered if you really try to keep your shows so uplifing and really clean in word and actions. So many I have gone to just seem to have to have an off color remark. We saw you in Vegas and yours was very uplifting and positive. One I would want my kids and grandkids to go to. One of the very best I have attended! Thanks for being the positive influence you are.
Private Audience
Have you ever sung for a private audience that made you super excited / nervous? Who was it?
tribute album??
Hi, Josh....I am very much a fan of the music you share with the world. I am, also, a Barry Manilow fan and was wondering if, in the future, you would consider doing a tribute album to Manilow's music or even a collaboration with him. You have fairly similar vocal styles and, to me, it would be the best of all musical worlds.
Josh, I agree with Paul. I
Josh, I agree with Paul. I love Barry Manilow's music as well but hearing your voice on "Time in New England" and "Somewhere in the Night" would be simply wonderful.
Blanket and Thanks
Hi Josh,
My daughter and I both love your voice. Its from GOD truly. I know you said in your "Josh Groban in Concert" DVD that you felt like Van Gogh in Starry Starry Night. That as artists you all suffer. Your voice is a true gift and you may feel that you suffer at times. But I would like to thank you for your voice and your passion for what you do.After my Grandpa died, your song "To Where You Are" helped me know he is with me all the time. Thank you! Now, my question is, do you think you will ever have a blanket with you on it? My daughter who is 8 has liked you since you came out and I would love to get her one.
Pink Blanket
I believe there is a Josh pink blanket available
for sale at the Josh Groban store.
Check it out for your daughter. It's on Josh's
website.
painting sushi
Josh,
I cannot believe I get to ask a question and I cant think of ONE thing to ask... so here it goes:
The song "Vincent"... Is that because he is your favorite artist?
oh yea, wanna meet for sushi in Dallas??? ;)
FOJG is AWESOME! Love ya~
Question for Josh!
Hey Josh!
When I've seen you perform live or watched one of your DVD's, your performance looks so effortless and natural. You sure do have a special gift.
My question is: of all the songs you have sung (whether your own or another artist's) which has been the most difficult and why?
Safe Travels
Hugs...KK :o)
Question for Josh
I'm sure you have friends and collaborators all over the world. With the internet being so prevalent in our society, do you think these relationships are stronger because of the frequency in which you're able to connect with them? Has the lack of face-to-face communication (due to time or distance constraints) changed any of your personal or professional relationships, leaving something missing?
....................bye:)
Music is love.
As a music teacher, I yearn help develop a sensational singer such as yourself. You are terrific! My question for you is what is the one question you wish someone would ask you?
Great night!
Hi Josh,
I was lucky enough to be at Rose Hall when the PBS special was filmed and am so excited to see it air to relive that special night. So I want to know, what was your favorite part of that night? Thank you!
Would you rather...
My friends and I often discuss this question with each other: If you *had* to choose, would you rather lose your sense of sight, sound or touch? Because most of my friends and I are all in the arts (music, theatre, studio art) it's hard for any of us to choose! Being an artist yourself, which one would you choose?
I cannot put in words how beautiful your music is and the ways in which it has touched my life - thank you for willing to be in the spotlight and share your amazing gift with the rest of us!
Twitter
What exactly about Twitter bugs you the most?
Fame...?
What is the most challenging aspect of fame for you? If you could do what you do without having any celebrity at all...would you prefer it that way? Thanks! :)
Song Choice
Hi Josh,
I just want to say that you are a huge inspiration in my life and my favorite musician by far! My question for you is how you go about choosing songs for you albums? How do you narrow it down to the dozen or so songs that make it onto your albums?
Music That Touches My Heart
Hi Josh!
Music has always been my first love, even at a young age. At 29, I am still very passionate about it. I sleep, breath, live, and sing music.
There are songs that connect with me so strongly that it's hard to describe how it makes me feel. The lyrics become the message I want to get across. I feel it's rare that music pulls at a person in such a way. I've heard you say the same thing :)and with that being said, What songs; that you have sung, affect you this way?
Thank you for being who you are and sharing your gift.
Natalie
love all of your music
Dear Josh,
Do you have any idea when you will be coming back to Pittsburgh, Pa? I have seen you there 2 times, but I would love to see you in concert again if I could. I have a
hard time getting places because I
am disabled, so someone always has to take me. And last Dec. I got burned real badly during a seizure.
But I love music and try to go to as
many concerts as I can. I have wanted to meet you for over 7 years
now. I really hope I can do that
someday.
after concerts.
What is your favorite way to wind down the energy rush after a concert?

Your own songs..
Hi Josh!
What does it take to write and compose one song by yourself? Does it happen in days or weeks? Do you write music then add lyrics or do you find lyrics then add music?
will you
Will you continue to walk through the audience and interact with the audience like you did for NWIA and In her eyes? We love you!
Much love and respect!
What do you think
How many times do you think an interviewer has mentioned your breakthrough performance on Ally McBeal? Do you keep an official count? It comes up alot in interviews and articles.
PLease come to Northeastern Pa! We have a great concert hall instead of the Wachovia Arena...Its got the intimate feel you are looking for on the next tour..kirbycenter.org
Love ya!
The song "With You"
Hi Josh - there wasn't much info on the song "With You" on your Hallmark album. Did you have a hand in writing it...and did you play the drums on it? Please settle a bet between a friend and me. (I say you played drums, but didn't write it). Lova ya and can't wait for the new music.
favorite song that you have written?
Hi Josh! - I love all of your music, but my favorites are the songs that you yourself have written/co-written. I especially felt connected to both "Awake" and "February Song" even before I found out that these were your own work.
So my question is, of all the songs that you have written, which one is your favorite, and why?
I am so looking forward to hearing new music from you! Thanks!

CARTOON CHARACTER
DEAREST JOSH,
LOVED YOUR OUTRAGEOUS PERFORMANCE ON THE AWARDS SHOW WHEN YOU SANG THE "SOUTHPARK' THEME SONG. IF YOU COULD BE A CARTOON CHARACTER, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU BE? WHICH ONE WAS YOUR FAVORITE AS A KID?
AS AN ASIDE NOTE, I HAVE TO THANK YOU & YOUR MUSIC FOR HELPING MY DAD WHO WAS IN THE ICU FOR 3 MONTHS FROM AN ANNEURYSM. IN THE HOSPITAL, I PLAYED YOU AWAKE CD CONSTANTLY. WHEN HE WAS IN & OUT OF CONSCIOUSNESS, HE THOUGHT YOU WERE HIS ROOMATE AND ASKED ABOUT U! LOL! HE WAS ABLE TO COME HOME AND ON FATHER'S DAY, I HELD HIM IN MY ARMS AS WE WATCHED YOUR DVD AS YOU PLAYED "AWAKE." I'LL NEVER FORGET IT. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.

Bjork
Hi Josh ~ There isn't an interview that has gone by, that when you are asked who you would like to collaborate with, you always always always mention Bjork. So, my first question is, have you asked her yet?
Part 2 of my question is.....if you two ever performed together live and if she breaks out her lovely Swan outfit, what would you dress up as?
Side Note....make sure that happens at Madison Square Garden!!! NYC could handle ANYTHING.

Tears of Hope Concert to Benefit Grobanites for Charity
Your Fans love you, and have supported your Charity, "Grobanites For Charity" ever since it was started. Would you consider doing a concert to benefit your charity where your fans were involved. The fans would have access to buying tickets first and then it would be opened to the public. You are so good to your fans and this would foster that relationship by taking hold of and going forward with something they wanted you to do. I am a member of your fanclub and involved with your fans on the east coast that are referred to as the Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, DC, Grobanites,
We Know this would raise alot of money and have been wanting this for a couple years and have given our ideas to your wonderful management team. What a great filler while we are waiting for your new CD.. HINT HINT ... Thanks for all you do to stay in touch with your fans, a Grobanite...

Hi Josh
There is no doubt that your voice is the most enchanting I have ever heard and you bring out emotions in me that no one else can.
I just wondered if you ever feel uncomfortable/overwhelmed in any way when we tell you how your voice and music helped us through a traumatic time.
I have met you five times but have never been brave enough to thank you personally for what you have done for me and my mother.
I doubt I ever will in case this does make you feel uncomfortable.
With love
Angel

Negative Responses?
Dear Josh,
Have you recieved any negativity over your part in the Jimmy Kimmel sketch about a sexual relationship between himself and Ben Affleck? Just to be clear, I was extremely entertained and would like to see you perform with Mr. Kimmel sometime again in the future. I was just curious if you'd had to deal with any repercussions from your fan base over that bit of fun?

Your Duet With Andrea Bocelli
Hey Josh! I just wanted to ask you what it was like singing "The Prayer" with Andrea Bocelli? Did it have any meaning to you since he was the one you were filling in for with Celine Dion so many years ago? That duet was so beautiful, will it be on any of your upcoming albums? Thank you so much for your time and music.
Leslie Cetta, NY
most challenging part of singing
What was your most challenging lesson to learn as a singer, and how do you take care of your voice before and after shows?
Getting Started
Hi there! I'm Anna and I'm an aspiring singer. This summer I'm going to be in Advanced Vocal at Interlochen Arts Camp and I'm very excited. But I was wondering about how you go about getting your name out to the public. I would really like to make singing my career in the future, but I really don't know where to start. I was wondering how you were discovered and if you have any advice on becoming such a renowned singer such as yourself. I saw the David Foster feature on television the other day and he mentioned that he's looking for new talent. How would I go about doing that? You really are a role model for me, and I hope to one day be able to sing onstage with you!
Your singing pal,
Anna Montgomery, age 15
Question for Josh
Hey Josh,
Obviously music is a huge part of your life, but what are some of your other passions?
Hi Josh, will you sing Happy
Hi Josh, will you sing Happy Birthday to me on my 80th birthday which is a month after your 30th?

Regrets
Even with having had such an accomplished career, do you ever look back on the past ten years of your life and regret not having had the opportunity to experience some of the "normal" things that your career schedule and lifestyle has kept you from?
Question for Josh Groban
How old were you when you decided to make singing your career? What family member backed you the most in making that decision?
Writing your own music
Josh, I absolutely have loved your music and being a Grobanite for many years. My question is: You have written some of the most beautiful ballads, February Song and Awake and I hope we are going to see more of your unique ability to bring music and emotion to the piano and we can relish in your voice with this style. Q: Do you plan to have more of your own music written in this style on the next album? Thank you for being who you are! Blessings, jacy
You've Got Mail!
Hey Josh!
For the gazillionth time, THANK YOU!!! ^_^
With the thousands of messages and letters to even comments on facebook pouring in daily (no doubt) from your Grobanites and fans all over the world, how many of them actually reach you? When do you like to read them? Do you have a scheduled time or is a sporadic? What do they mean to you and do they ever served to brighten your day with a smile, as you and your music do for so many of us?
Much love!
PS. We're dying to see you in concert again...near home in LA!
French?
Hi Josh!
First off, don't get me wrong, you sing wonderfully no matter what language it's in. I do love it when you sing in Spanish and Italian. However, I was wondering why you don't sing more in French? You're very good at it, and I love the language. "L'Hymne De L'Amour" is one of my favorites, and I loved "Petit Papa Noel". Also La Boheme with Charles Aznavour is great, as well. Is it a harder language for you to sing? I know it's hard to learn, and I'm not trying to pressure you into doing something you don't want to. I just thought I'd try to petition to get you to sing more in French on upcoming albums. :)
Thank you for the music,
Katie
Most Inspiring Song
I know people ask you all the time what is your "favorite" song you have performed; but my question to you is, what is the most inspiring song you have performed?
Your Own Music
Josh,
Trying to write songs can be difficult. I find that when I try to write songs I end up using every cliche in the book. What do you do if and/or when you have problems writing your songs? Do you ever get help from a lyricist?
Reading Music?
Josh-
I have heard mixed reports about whether or not you can actually read music. When you are learning a piece, especially on the piano, do you do it by ear or by studying the actual music?
Much adoration-
Tiffany
Pregunta a Josh Groban
Greetings, my friend!
In your mind, what is the ultimate artistic goal you must achieve in this lifetime?
inspirations
Hey Josh,
First I want to tell you how much of an inspiration you are to me. It always amazes me how I can hear one of your songs over and over again, yet hear something so different each time.
I would like to ask you who your biggest inspiration is? Who pushes you forward or who do you look up to for guidance?
Languages
Hi Josh,
Which language(s) do you like singing the most and which do you consider the most romantic?
Have you ever sang in Japanese?
Your write the beautiful songs
Hi Josh,
You are extremely talented song writer. Did you write a lot of songs for your new album? I cannot until you come to Boston Ma.!
Hope you are well.
Rose
MUSICALS!
Would you ever consider doing a movie musical? I'd just LOVE to see that!
Vocal Care
Heya Josh,
Welcome back to PBS. I'm looking foward to the performance!
I wondered about vocal upkeep. I know you drink water and tea and get enough sleep (when possible;) ) But I wondered what else you do to care for your voice, or restore it when you're sick?
I applaud you on taking care and responsibility with your instrument, it's clear by the results you've received that it's done well for you :)
Wishing you he best in the future,
Christy P
Emotion
Hi Josh,
I must tell you that your music makes me smile and cry. Thank you.
I want to ask you if your songs are written to bring out the emotions that we all feel listenening to them?
You are by far my favorite baritone. Please keep the emotions coming.
All the luck in the world.

Question for Josh Groban
Hi Josh, you are amazing! I've seen you in concert 3 times but that is never enough. Why are your albums so few and far between? I have them all but need more of Josh Groban. Keep it up....we love your singing. Thanks

Thanks and good luck in all your projects and life.

Non Profit/Volunteer Opportunities
Josh,
What is your favorite non profit to donate to? And what kind of work do they do/support?
Coachella & Summer Music Festivals
*****hey Squash! :D
I love it so much that you've done a Great Lake Swimmers cover, played with Ben Folds and also adore Grizzly Bear-- I have two questions for you:
1. can we expect a duet with the lovely Katy Perry on the new album? And also--
2. would you ever sign on for a summer music festival (like Coachella for example) and perform pieces that were a little more geared towards that type of an audience? The "Changing Colors" cover was just so delicious; more like that please!
All the best and warmest regards, Can't wait for the new album!
Heather, Vancouver.*******
Any more musical theatre in your future?
In the past couple of years, you appeared in concert productions of Chess in NYC & London. (Saw the London concert - it was amazing!) Is there any more musical theatre in your future?
Causes and Politics
Hi Josh, you have spent a good deal of time promoting issues like the arts, as well as supporting politicians you feel strongly about. I applaud how you have gone about it without "ramming" an agenda down your fans throats will still keeping true to yourself.
My question is, what other causes would you like to help out with through performances or your charity?
children
Hey Josh! I was just wondering: When (if) you have children, will you sing to them and will you encourage any musical talent that they may have? i.e. piano or voice lessons? Or will you just let them decide when they're older? I thought "Lullabye" is absolutely beautiful and have played it for my baby girl since the day she was born. Thanks for all the ways you've touched my life!

Question
Hi Josh--
I am the Mom to three boys. I was wondering if you ever teased your little brother when you were younger? You are so sweet that it seems unimaginable!
Thanks!
Carol O.
Send a question to Josh
Hi Josh - I have seen you sing "Phantom of the Night" on YouTube and wonder if you would ever entertain the idea of performing in Phantom of the
Opera on Broadway? What a treat that would be!
All the best - Laura P.
TANGLEWOOD 2005
Hi, Josh! I attended your performance with John Williams at Tanglewood in 2005, and have always wanted to ask you what you thought about your performance that night. How did you feel? What did Mr. Williams say to you before and after? How did you prepare for that performance?
Just wondering,
Larisa :)
Dolphins
Hi Josh!!
Do you like dolphins? I wonder if they would like to hear you sing? They are so intelligent, so they should appreciate your amazing voice. Or maybe they could sing backup for you on the next cd.
Looking forward to the next Josh adventure,
Alice Parker
Audience
I really like your comment about "seeing the whites " of your audiences eyes as you compared it to your performance at Madison Square Garden. I was curious which venue do you prefer. I have yet to see one of your concerts...but to offer my opinion I would rather see you at a smaller venue I think it is more intimate and better suited to hear your beautiful voice and music. I hope to see you in concert one day and in a small venue. Wish me luck on getting tickets...
Question for Josh
If I remember reading correctly I saw something where you said you would like to do more musical theater in the future. Is there one special play you would like to be a part of (other than Chess) and do you ever see yourself writing a musical play?
Love ya
Josh, just want you to know, i ask for your CD's for birthdays, Christmas and Mothers day. You really have an amazing voice. God has blessed you!
question for josh groban
I would like to know... there are rummors that josh remains single.. is it true? And if he is, would he ever consider dating a non- celebrity?
Arts Education
Hiya Josh,
You've been such a great, vocal supporter of arts in education, and I know it's something close to your heart. How do you think your life would be different now if you hadn't had those early opportunities to "find your niche" through music and theater programs?
Keep up the great work!

Your Songs
Of all the songs you have sang, which one/ones have moved, or that just make you feel important?
Lock yourself away for a week
You are invited to a private island to lock yourself away for one week to do nothing but write music. You can invite one person to write with you. Who would you choose and why?
Motivation?
Dear Josh,
Watching your fame and success grow over these past 7 or so years I have always been amazed by how much you are willling to give back to the fans and get involved in what is going on in the world. You have become a hero and example to a lot of us, and i wanted to know what is your motivation? What makes it all worth while? Seeing you on stage, you always seem so excited and pumped about what you are doing, but what about the days when you are feeling down, or just not in the mood? What is it that keeps you pushing forward?
ps. Any hints on when the new album is coming?
Keep up the great work!
Jenny
Second Chances
You've come a long way, and have succeeded in doing more with your life than many other people will ever get the chance to do; but can you name one thing that you would like to do over again if given the chance?
dreams
I saw you on the street a few days ago and you looked right into my eyes as we passed. It would be difficult to explain the feeling I had, looking into your eyes for that brief moment, but I think you would know if I said, "my heart was home again".
I have been dreaming about you for 2 years, just simple things, like hanging out together, laughing, talking, nothing more. When I wake up I miss being with you.
Our time together is so intoxicating... that is, until I remember that I was asleep the whole time. I wonder if you remember any of those times we spent together in my dreams, and if they show up in yours, and would you know me by my smile or by my laugh?
My question is this; how can I get you out of my head? I miss you terribly when I am awake, and all I can think about is going to sleep, so I can sit by you, be near you, and laugh with you again. But most of all, to see that familiar look in your eyes when ours meet.

How often do you get proposed to?
Thank you Josh! Your music transports me to a place where I can feel my hurt or be flooded with joy. I know no other musician who can move me as much as you do.
Is it over whelming to know so many woman love you? How many marriage proposals do you get? I have a beautiful single harpist daughter who would kill me if she knew I was writing this.
Thank you for sharing your voice with the world!
Question for Josh
Hi Josh! Congratulations on your induction into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame! You are a gifted interpreter of the music of many great composers and songwriters, like Paul Simon, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Steven Sondheim and Neil Young...my question is, who would you like to see interpret some of your original music?
Hi Josh...your music has been
Hi Josh...your music has been healing and inspirational for me. I have all your CD's on at my restaurant, and find many new fans everyday. My question is, who is your dream duet? Who is someone crazy 'out there' that you would just love to work with? I look forward to your new album, and the next tour! Love ya!
Question
Dear Josh (huge fan!) You seem so grounded and "real" (for lack of a better term). What helps you stay that way?
What other artists have
What other artists have served as the most influential over your own work?
One More Time, Please?
I NEED to see your face as you describe what it was like to perform at WE ARE ONE: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial. 'The' career highlight? Or was it playing the White House PIANO for staff and Sasha and Malia Obama!?!? OMG!
Can Josh Groban Dance?
Your talent is a gift to the world & there would be a loss without your voice. However, out of curiosity... "If you weren't in vocal performance professionally, what do you think you would be doing?" "What is something you wish you COULD do other than singing?" For instance, I am a vocalist as well... (NO where in your league, of course)... but wish I could play the drums/percussion, or dance. Can you dance?
Question for Josh
Josh,
You've been so grateful and thankful for everythig, I've never seen anyone like you! So, how do you stay grounded and humble?
Songs in ASL
Josh, Have you ever considered having your songs (in conert) signed for the deaf? You have so many songs with such beautiful lyrics; it would be wonderful if they were interpreted for those unable to 'hear' you sing...
Something different
Josh,
I can't help myself - have you ever given any more thought to getting a motorcycle? ;) I've got to admit, the mental image is charming.
Christmas Special
Josh,
Have you ever considered doing a Christmas special on TV?
TV Christmas Special
Yes Josh. Please do a Christmas special
on TV; with Lucia and Tariq. I play Noel all
the time and it would have some much meaning
to be able to see you three perform. My favorite
song is: "What Child Is This?" with Lucia playing
the violin and you singing with your beautiful
classical voice!! Please!!!
Lyrics, melody and interviews
Hi Josh. Every year you write more songs. Do you write the lyrics first, do you write them after you have found or written the melody, or is it a growing proces of lyrics and melody together?
I'm also wondering if you are always aware during an interview that your family can see or read the result of it.
Interesting fact
First, let me say, I was lucky enough to get to meet you during the Awake tour, and it was an experience I will never forget...mainly because I made a fool of myself. :)
My question is...What is something most of your fans may not know about you that they might be surprised to learn?
Josh, First of all, thank you
Josh,
First of all, thank you for sharing your life with your fans and the world. We appreciate every second of it. Your performance at the Bridge School was beyond incredible. Your rendition of "Changing Colors" was the best performance I've ever witnessed. Your performance of "Harvest Moon" was also beyond incredible. If someone ever told me someone could improve on "Harvest Moon" I literally wouldn't have believed it. It's really has to be seen to be believed. As you can tell, I love your jazz piano abilities (in addition to all of your other abilities). Are you planning on recording any jazz piano pieces in the future? (pretty please!)
Inspiration?
Hey Josh! First thanks for taking the time to answer the questions! I was wondering... is there something/someplace/someone particular you get your inspiration for song writing? Can you tell us some about the songs you wrote for the upcoming album? Thanx! -Rio
PS Let me know when your in the Mt Rushmore area... ;D
Carnegie Hall, NYC
Any possibility you would perform at Carnegie Hall?
Favorite Concert Performance
Hi Josh,
You are amazing in concert! Who do you admire as a concert performer?
You must have met Bruce Springsteen at the Inaugural...have you ever seen Bruce and the E Street Band in concert?
If I get the chance, I'll ask Bruce if he's ever seen you in concert!
Your ability to heal......
As I am watching your PBS NYC special here in my home in the Smokies of NC I wonder if you have ever been told that your music has the most beautiful healing properties? As a nurse who works primarily with oncology patients I have on numerous occasions had a patient listen to one of your CD's- doesn't even matter which one- even the Christmas album! I say this with all sincerity... whether I have had an absolutely wonderful day and am driving home with the top down on my car with my Josh Groban music booming, or whether I may have lost a patient that day and need the comfort your voice gives, or even if I have a patient/family member dealing with the knowledge that their time has come- regardless of the situation, your music and the heartfelt joy it brings truly is healing to the heart and soul. At the risk of sounding corny, I just wanted to know if you realize that or have ever been made aware of this portion of your gift? Debbie
solo por ti
Hi Josh
I love the song Solo Por Ti. Why have you never sung it in any of your concerts?
Question for Josh
Hi Josh,
I am a huge fan of yours. Not only do you have an amazingly beautiful voice, you are so talented as a pianist, drummer, and songwriter and I'd love to know more about you. My question to you is: Out of all the songs on your CDs, which one is your favorite? And Why?
Margaret
Question for Josh.
Hi Josh,
I'm Lorraine and I would like to thank you for taking the time in answering our questions. My questions: Were there instances a song didn't make it to an album? How does the selection process work when you decide which song goes to the album or it's shelved? Do you go back to those songs that didn't make the cut?
All the best!
Josh – get out of my life!
Dear Josh,
Please don’t get upset - Josh. But I have a serious problem. I simply can’t get you and your music out of my life – and it makes my life very difficult – but at the same time so WONDERFUL. I’ve adored your voice and music since the first time I ever heard you about 9-10 years ago – and I’ve tried so hard to let go of you – but I can’t. I’ve put your cd’s, videos, lyrics and photos into a drawer – just to give me some peace. After a while I open up the drawer again – and after just one song – I’m lost again. I take the lyrics from the drawer and sing to your songs again – and again – bringing back my greatest desire to meet you some time and sing with you - although I know too well that it’s a dream not likely to come true – especially as I’m living far away from you - in Denmark. However, I’ve always worked hard to reach my goals – and where there’s a will, there’s a way. So maybe – one day. So – Josh – as you being a highly sensitive and passionate person too – what do you do or would you do in a situation like this?? I’m sure you must have been in similar situations. Please just don’t answer that I should throw away the key to my drawer.
Hugs,
Charlotte Viale

Hi Josh,
My name is Cristina and I live in NYC. First off i would just like to say that your voice is amazing and beautiful. (Like I'm sure you've never heard that before! :)
I also wanted to thank you for your music. It just always brings me such joy. If I'm happy it heightens the effect and if I'm stressed it bring me to that happy place.
I was wondering what you like to do in your free time. What would your ideal day/weekend be? Thanks Josh! Love you!

NorCal Grobies Snoopy Card
We met, sortof, at your Carmel concert. I can't think of anything
profund to ask you so .........
Did you ever receive the Snoopy "I
Love You Much" card that I tried to
give you but unfortunately when you
came back, I had passed it on to give to your manager? (I can't believe this is such a long drawn
out question!!)
I love you and your music. Thank
you for your dedication to your work. Please come back to Concord.
We loved you and you loved us back!!
I'm the lady in the white jacket

Pick my question! Please and thank you!
Dear Josh,
Do you ever feel constrained by your public image and/or the expectations of your label and fans (i.e., the fans who were not so pleased with the Kimmel video, your appearance on Loveline)?
How do you balance staying true to yourself and the expectations that others have of you?
Would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks for being so amazing and inspiring!
I and my family are wondering
I and my family are wondering how you divide your time between the creative process of lyric and song writing and your performances/concerts (including practice time). About how much time do you spend on each? Does that leave you very much free time?

Question For Josh
Your career has enabled you to visit many beautiful countries. In what country or area would you like to perform where you have not had the opportunity to visit in the past and why.
Thanks!!
my mother
My mother will pass soon, her name is Bernadette. I have been looking all over for the song " The Song of Bernadette" performed by you and Celine Dion and I can not find it anywhere. I really did hear it about a year ago, I want to play it to a slide show at her service. Did you ever sing this song?
Darleen
the future
You are one lucky dude doing something you obviously love. And we fans are lucky you came along when you did. :) Your voice was the lure, but your humor, wit, and intellect set the hook. You're a natural to become an advocate for the industry, for the arts. I expect to see you on Capitol Hill more often. Any inklings in that direction?
(and I'll add - too bad I don't live in CA so I can cast a vote. a girl can dream.)
Question for Josh
Josh:
You have inspired so many of us with your music, humbleness and compassion for others. Thanks to your parents for doing such a wonderful job. Since most of your songs speak directly to the heart, have you entertained the thought of acting in movies or a drama television series?
"Play Me"
HI Josh!
I read that you covered Neil Diamond's "Play Me" during the MusiCares event earlier this year. I really love that song and would love to hear your interpretation of it. Do you have any plans to include it in your new cd?
I will be anxiously awaiting the release of new music from you!
Thanks!
Tara
2 mins please
will u agree that music needs no language???
Songs that end up on the CD
Hi Josh. I was wondering how much input you have on deciding which songs end up on your CD. I know you've mentioned in the past that you fought for Machine to be included on Awake or that the song Awake should have been on the CD. I'm sure you play a huge part in the decision making but how big a part do the WB execs play? Love you and your music! Can't wait for the next CD and tour!!
Touring in North Florida
I am so hoping you will tour in North Florida--perhaps Jacksonville ?
Tampa would be good also. Any chance?
Love your music !!
ACTING, MUSICALS AND SARA BAREILLUS
HI JOSH,
I GOT TO HEAR YOU AND SARA BAREILLUS SING WITH BEN FOLD IN LA. WHEN YOU JUDGED THE ACCAPELLA GROUPS. YOUR FAN ATTRACTION TO YOUR UNIQUE AND MAGNETIC MUSICAL VOICE AND STYLE ON YOUTUBE AND THE INTERNET IS VERY SIMILAR TO SARA BAREILLUS'S FAN DRIVEN POPULARITY. YOU ARE BOTH GIFTED SONGWRITERS, PERFORMERS OF A VARIETY OF INSTRUEMENTS, ACTED IN MUSICAL THEATER AND HAVE YOUR OWN AMAZING, UNIQUE AND SENSITIVE STYLE. ARE YOU FRIENDS AND WOULD YOU, SARA AND PERHAPS EVEN BEN FOLD EVER CONSIDER COLLABORATING ON A SONG OR A PROJECT? THE CREATIVITY WOULD BE ELECTRIC!!!!
ARE YOU GOING TO EVER PURSUE YOUR ACTING SKILLS? THE DRAMA AND EMOTION IN YOUR MUSICAL INTERPRETATIONS OF SONGS ARE NATURAL GIFTS FROM GOD. IS ACTING IN THEATER A NATURAL PROCESS OR IS IT SOMETHING THAT TAKES THE SAME TYPE OF TRAINING THAT YOU ENJOY WITH DAVID ROMANO IN NURTURING YOUR VOICE?
Chess in Concert / Placido Domingo
Chess in Concert is coming up ... Did you know that Tommy Korberg was in the audience at RAH? If yes, that had to be a weird moment. How does it feel to know you now own the role of Anatoly? You do. The mantle has passed.
And secondly, Placido Domingo. What are the odds you will be on a stage anywhere, any time singing La Tua Semplicità? Am I going to have to fly to Krakow? :)
Question for Josh
Josh, would you ever consider recording a gospel/spiritual album?
question for Mr. Josh Groban
Hi Josh!
I was wondering if you consider touring in Eastern Eaurope. I live in Romania (Sibiu) and unless you give a concert in my country or in the neighborhood of it I probably won't have the chance to listen to you perform live. And I would like that very much!
Greetings!
