The Hot Sheet August 3-10
America is an illustration of dynamic people and events, but some take it a step further. This week PBS showcases some of our most revered legends.
- With a barrel-scraping baritone and fondness for a monochromatic wardrobe, Johnny Cash became an icon of country music. P.O.V. celebrates the “man in black” by showing the 1969 classic film, “Johnny Cash: The Man, His World, His Music”,on August 5th at 10pm ET (check local listings). The special performance with Cash accompanied by Bob Dylan is something you won’t want to miss.
- Not everyone’s kitchen is preserved in the Smithsonian, but Julia Child’s is! The chef of a tall order, both in stature and impact on American cooking and culture, is now honored with a special collection of programming on PBS Video. Full episodes of “The French Chef” and other culinary classics are online for you to enjoy via the Bon Appetite collection page.
- The Civil War fostered countless legends of bravery and conflict, but some are still—literally—underground. Time Team America went on a mission to South Dakota to surface a story of war and the Wild West straight from 1865. Go beyond the battle between the North and South when the episode premieres on August 5th at 8pm ET (check local listings).
