PBS gets into some serious issues this week: women unexpectedly on the battlefield, the struggle to have children and more interviews from one of America’s hardest hitting journalists.
- Women have been vital members of the military for centuries – as nurses, photographers, even pilots in recent years – but are banned from direct combat. In the Independent Lens film, Lioness, airing Tuesday at 10pm (check local listings), five female soldiers, serving as mechanics, company commanders and supply clerks find themselves on the front lines in Iraq. In this clip, the women reunite to talk about their complex roles as mothers,
- The PBS Video portal welcomes Bill Moyers Journal to the rotation of high quality, full length shows. Starting Friday, June 5th, you can catch Moyers’ ten most recent episodes, including interviews with senators, economists and health care experts (just to name a few).
- For too many, conceiving a child can be a long and challenging process. American Experience’s one hour documentary Test Tube Babies interweaves the stories of doctors, researchers and couples hopeful to procreate. Is in vitro fertilization too close to science fiction, or a revolutionary advancement that changes lives?
