The Hot Sheet: October 25-31

Sometimes, survival makes for an astonishing story.  Living creatures have an incredible way of overcoming obstacles, even when the world around them  presents constant challenges.  This week on PBS, meet a mysterious Turkish family that makes scientists question the evolutionary timetable.   Visit a New York City hair salon busy with customers and workers making ends meet in tough economic times and catch up with an old friend that has grown from tiny foal to powerful leader of his wild band.

  • Five siblings living in a remote village in Turkey have spent their lives walking on hands and feet.  NOVA presents “The Family that Walks on All Fours,” the story of a family that has learned to persevere, despite social isolation from neighbors.  Scientists wonder if they suffer from a severe medical condition or if they can offer clues to theories about human evolution.  Meet the family on Tuesday, October 27th at 8pm (check local listings).  Watch a preview online.
  • Deborah Boles owns a hair salon on New York City’s Upper East Side, a neighborhood known for its well-heeled inhabitants.  FRONTLINE’s “Close to Home” (October 27th at 9pm, check local listings) shares intimate stories of the clientele, employees and loved ones related to the neighborhood hair salon – all who are affected by  the economic downturn.
  • Cloud, the wild stallion of the Arrowhead Mountains, is all grown up.  In the third installment of NATURE’s Cloud series, we meet Cloud’s son Bolder who has been adopted by a rival band of horses.  The series has followed Cloud since his birth in 1995 (catch up with the story online), chronicling the challenges he and his family face, including environmental changes, natural predators and humans who aim to control the wild horse population.  Cloud: Challenge of the Stallions airs on Sunday, October 25th at 8pm (check local listings).

Memory

I missed a segement that I wanted to watch this morning that had to do with memory techniques. I think that there was a mom that said she picked up a newspaper outside of her home everyday on her way to work or may while waiting on the bus for her kid, that's all I had time to listen to before waking my daughter up. Can you share the detials of what I missed. Thanks so much in advance.
