If you have a compelling story about taking care of aging relatives, the WGBH Lab is currently soliciting three-minute videos that may be licensed for broadcast or broadband in April in conjunction with a new series called Caring For Your Parents.
In addition, five rough cuts from the recent WGBH Lab "Eviction Notice" Open Call can be rated and commented on; audience feedback on these video pitches helps determine which receive funding and are completed. Commenters can participate in the filmmaking process as the directors of the rough cuts read and respond to the comments about their film.
The "Eviction Notice" rough cuts examine John Jay High School in Park Slope, Brooklyn, bi-racial hair, taxi conversations in Huntsville, Alabama, memories of Atlantic Beach, South Carolina, and reparation blues.
On the Bi-Racial Hair piece, commenter Portia Cobb-Heyward wrote, "I think that the energy in the live poem is fierce, however, the re-enactment is a bit unbelievable."
Director Lisa Russell responded, "I'm very appreciative of the comments that were posted previously and over the past several days, have tried to utilize them in my new cut," before sharing some resolution issues with new footage she shot to address the believability concern.
What do you think about the rough cut process? Ideas for future open calls? (Please leave comments for the filmmakers on the rough cut pages above to continue the ongoing conversations on the Lab pages.)
The open call for aging video submissions goes until February 19th.
