Ken Burns' The War
For his groundbreaking new documentary on World War II, Ken Burns and his crew relied heavily on the stories and suggestions of his audience. Stations across the nation have developed initiatives to record interviews and host events, bringing the experience of the Second World War home to their communities. Stations are offering viewers the ability to upload their stories directly to their Web sites in the form of video, audio, text, or photographs extending the documentary and tailoring the story to their communities.
This World War II story comes from Detroit Public Television via StoryShare (pbs.org/thewar/story_share.htm). The video features Lieutenant Prudence Burns, a nurse at the segregated 268th Station Hospital in New Guinea.
