The Angels of the Winter War
Post Winter War Lotta Svärd

Once the Winter War ended, the Finns needed to start fortifying the new border. Just like before Winter War, Lottas arranged the food supply for builders of the new Finnish main defense line, Salpa-line. When the Continuation War began in June of 1941, Lottas were again assigned similar tasks as during Winter War. Also in 1941, the organization’s name was changed to Lotta-Svard r.y. (Lotta-Svard registered association). Along with the name, the organization's rules were upgraded more suitable to the new situation. At that time the organization had five sections:

  • Nursing
  • Provisioning
  • Equipment
  • Office and Signal
  • Fundraising and Supplies

They continued to work in these sections until end of the Continuation War in September 1944.

When the Lotta-Svard was disbanded in November 1944, it had some 150,000 active members, about 30,000 supporting members, and about 52,000 Lotta-girls. The Lotta girls organization was dissolved in October 1944.
