At a time when funding for music and arts within our schools is being cut, PBS and our member stations are helping to keep the arts alive today and for generations to come by ensuring the worlds of music, theater, dance and art remain available to all Americans, many of whom might never have had the opportunity to experience them otherwise.
Recent major arts initiatives have included:
- Expanded broadcast programming, which included the 2011 PBS Arts Fall Festival, a nine-week festival of primetime Friday night arts programming that aired from October to December 2011. Similar on-air arts festivals are planned for the summers of 2012 and 2013;
- An ambitious online presence consisting of PBSArts, a web site offering curated arts "exhibits" online, and PBSArts 2.0, which is deploying PBS arts content on the country’s most popular social media sites; and
- An ongoing campaign designed to bolster the teaching of arts through the use of digital learning objects. These efforts are a part of PBS’ mission to create content that educates, informs and inspires.
