Areas of Focus Children's Programming & Education

PBS and member stations are America’s largest classroom, available to 98% of America’s children through our television service – including those who can’t attend preschool. We offer educational media that helps prepare children for success in school and opens up the world for them in an age-appropriate way.

PBS is dedicated to offering educational resources that can lead to success in the classroom. PBS is the country’s No. 1 source of media content for pre-school teachers and the No. 1 place parents turn to for preschool video online, with content that has been shown to improve critical literacy skills in young children. PBS and member stations have partnered with other publicly funded organizations to deliver more than 14,000 unique, curriculum-based educational resources through PBS LearningMedia, launched in the summer of 2011. This is a free service for all teachers, students and home-schooling families nationwide, offered through local PBS member stations.

PBS KIDS offers all children the opportunity to explore new ideas and new worlds through television, online, on mobile and through outreach programs, with positive role models and content designed to nurture a child’s total well-being. According to the results of an annual survey, PBS is the undisputed leader for children’s programming, is the No. 1 educational media brand and is the most trusted and safe place for children to watch TV and visit online (ORC Caravan, March 2011). In 2011, for the 14th consecutive year, PBS KIDS won more Daytime Emmy awards for children’s programs than any other media enterprise.
