God in America and USA WEEKEND Magazine are partnering to explore Americans' images of God.

How do you imagine God? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I imagine God as I see him in pictures, with a white robe, dark hair, and facial hair. I imagine him as a quiet, gentle father.

My Beliefs

My most powerful moment of belief was ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator My most powerful moment of belief was when I was reading the "Not A Fan" last year. I truly wanted to change everything I was doing and follow God whole heartedly.

I was in the process of making excuses for them and thinking the rules of the bible don't apply the same now because it was written in a different time period.

How I Practice My Faith

Where and when do you practice your faith? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I definitely practice in church, but I try to pray daily. It's not at a certain time, it's just whenever I remember to.
Does your family practice more than one religion or faith? If so, how do you blend the traditions? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator No, we are only Lutherans.
How easy or difficult is it to live your faith? Why? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator It is difficult because of all the temptations around me every day. I can never escape how easy it is to sin thousands of times a day.
In my house, the thing that most represents my faith is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator The thing that most represents my faith is the relationship with my family. Even if we do fight, we strive to be kind and act as Christians to each other.

Religion & the Public Square

What should be the role of religion in politics? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I think Church can be involved in government like prayers, but I dont think the church should affect gay rights.
Should courses about religion be taught in public schools? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I think they should be offered, but not mandatory.
Should the Bible, Torah, Quran or other religious texts be taught as works of literature in public schools? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I think they could be taught as literature because as long as there are several taught, they are not just promoting one religion.
Is interfaith dialogue important? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Interfaith dialogue isn't necessary, but I think it could help by really getting an idea of how your religion stands out or is different from others.
Do you feel comfortable discussing your faith with others? Why/why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I don't feel very comfortable talking about it with strangers, but if I know theyre a Christian, it's easier.
Do you feel that you have a duty, because of your faith, to put your beliefs into action? What are some of those actions? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I believe I do have that duty, but it's hard to do things like sharing God's word with people you know that don't believe in God.
Are religious beliefs compromised by engaging in politics? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I think they are because most candidates can't run for what they actually believe in, they have to focus on winning, and their exact set of beliefs probably won't get them there.
Has 9/11 had any impact on your thoughts about religion? Are you more/less interested in learning about other religions? Do you feel more/less comfortable expressing your religious beliefs? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Yes, it makes me more prejudiced toward Muslims. It doesnt make me more interested in learning about their beliefs, but it does makes me a little more scared to share mine.
