Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too? ~Douglas Adams

How Do You Imagine God?
God in America and USA WEEKEND Magazine are partnering to explore Americans' images of God.

How do you imagine God? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator As I imagine any deity that people use to fill voids in their life. A big handful of nothing.

My Beliefs

I believe ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator This is it and wonder how I'm going to handle dying. I've never done it before and I'm afraid of cramped spaces.
My most powerful moment of belief was ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I never had one. In my teens I was very doubtful and went on a search to find the answer of who and where is this god. By the time I was in my late twenties I realized I found the answer; there was none.
My greatest moment of doubt was ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I had a massive panic attack at 17. My brain told the rest of me there wasn't an afterlife. I questioned what was scarier; that there was or wasn't a god.
My spiritual life means... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I've only got one chance to win big in Vegas.
The biggest misconception about my faith/belief system is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator My lack of having a belief system makes me less of a woman in most eyes of men. I don't think I'm less of a woman at all.
My spiritual role model is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator The Science channel and books by Dawkins and Harris. The more knowledge you have the less scary everything is.
The tenet/practice/teaching I appreciate most about my faith is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Not applicable. I think faith is a very bad word.

My Faith History

As a child I believed ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator That I should be able to fly on my bike like Elliott in E.T. I got mad when it didn't happened then I learned about gravity and I hated gravity because it dashed all my sinister plans to fly away.
My spiritual journey has been ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Hard. For most of my life it was constant research which lead to more research. The journey pulled me so far away from religion and gods that there was never a reason to go back. I was far to educated to believe.
I was raised as ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Non-denominational. The simplest answer, because my parents didn't know the real answer was, "Cause god did it." By the time I was four I wasn't picking up what they were putting down.
Are your beliefs or practices different from your parents? If so, how and why? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Yes. My parents are in their 70s. They don't have to think anymore, and they won't think. It's easier and more comforting that their god is gonna make it all better or help me out because I'm just so much more special than 7.2 billion people on the planet. 1 person liked this
If you have children, did becoming a parent change your relationship to faith? If so, how? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I do not have any children. If I did I would raise them with a fantastic education.

How I Practice My Faith

Where and when do you practice your faith? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Doesn't not apply. Atheist.
Does your family practice more than one religion or faith? If so, how do you blend the traditions? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator My family are like most Xtians, they barrow and steal from all other religions because it makes life more romantic. Personally, I like horror and suspense films.
How easy or difficult is it to live your faith? Why? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator It's difficult for me to live with someones 'faith.' I can't stand being around someone who should know better. It just comes across moronic.
In my house, the thing that most represents my faith is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Nothing represents faith in my home. I have a library of fiction to read from.
The song/book/film that most represents my faith is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Religulous with Bill Maher. No faith. I really don't like that word, it's misused and contorted all the time. Stop it.

Religion & the Public Square

What should be the role of religion in politics? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator NONE! NONE! NONE! 2 people liked this
Should courses about religion be taught in public schools? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator NO! Should courses on how to be an effective terrorist be taught in public schools? See how stupid that question is?
Should the Bible, Torah, Quran or other religious texts be taught as works of literature in public schools? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator They should be looked at as works of fiction solely. Because they are.
Is interfaith dialogue important? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I think a good foundation in Humanities and Science would be more important in dealing with various people around the world.
Do you feel comfortable discussing your faith with others? Why/why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Since I do not use faith, but education ... I'll talk to anyone about their misconceptions.
Do you feel that you have a duty, because of your faith, to put your beliefs into action? What are some of those actions? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I have no duty. I have no faith. But, education needs to be the forefront of everything and I'm a big supporter of that.
Are religious beliefs compromised by engaging in politics? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Religious beliefs are compromised period. They're used in politics to sway the uneducated, bigoted, racist and hateful.
Has 9/11 had any impact on your thoughts about religion? Are you more/less interested in learning about other religions? Do you feel more/less comfortable expressing your religious beliefs? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I've learned more about Islam and the like and find it sad that people are enslaved to such things. I think that 9/11 should be more of a reason why a secular world would be a much better place.
