How Do You Imagine God?
God in America and USA WEEKEND Magazine are partnering to explore Americans' images of God.

How do you imagine God? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I imagine God as a big powerful man who looks older and powerful. I also imagine he would be wearing bright white clothes.

My Beliefs

I believe ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator In Jesus Christ dying on the cross and took away the sins from the world. Jesus was also buried and rose on the third day and then rose back up to heaven. I believe God created the heavens and the earth.
My most powerful moment of belief was ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator My most powerful moment in my belief was during a youth event. Seeing how many other people share faith in God with me really showed me how great and powerful he is.
My greatest moment of doubt was ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator My greatest moment of doubt would be the year when I didn't go to church. A whole year from God and church really hurt my faith and lead me away.
My spiritual life means... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator My spiritual life means everything to me. All of my decisions are based off of what God would want me to do. Everything I do I try and do with Christ on my mind.
The biggest misconception about my faith/belief system is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator The Lutherans are often thought of as a very strict and traditional denomination. This is true in some cases they are rather traditional however, there is a lot of things that we do that is really fun and loose and not as strict as you may think.
My spiritual role model is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator My spiritual role model is my step father. He is a Lutheran pastor and is always there to explain any theological questions I could ever have.
The tenet/practice/teaching I appreciate most about my faith is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator The best part about being a Lutheran is that I don't have to worry about if I did enough or prayed enough to get to heaven. We believe in if you believe God is your savior then you are saved. This is a very helpful in hard times to just know God will always save me.

My Faith History

My spiritual journey has been ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I've had a very crazy spiritual adventure. I've lived in good and bad neighborhoods and places and somehow I ended up in a very Christian community and I'm happy about it.
I was raised as ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I have been to many denominations. I started out nondenominational until I was 12. I then became a baptist and then finally Lutheran.

If you have children, did becoming a parent change your relationship to faith? If so, how? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I am not a parent and I'm not planning on becoming a parent soon.

How I Practice My Faith

Where and when do you practice your faith? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I practice my faith all throughout the week. At school at home and at church. I pray when I go out for lunch or dinner and I live out my faith throughout my life.
Does your family practice more than one religion or faith? If so, how do you blend the traditions? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator My whole family is Christian however the denominations are different. It isn't really a problem we will still go to other denominational churches for a day.
How easy or difficult is it to live your faith? Why? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator It isn't easy because I always sin. However, it's also easy because I know God will always love me.
In my house, the thing that most represents my faith is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator The most faithful thing in my house would be probably be my bible.

Religion & the Public Square

What should be the role of religion in politics? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I hope that most politicians are Christian. I think that being a Christian you try and live a more honest and responsible life politicians should be.
Should courses about religion be taught in public schools? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I think there should at least be a course that describes all religions not just Christianity. Our country has many different religions in it you at least know what they are.
Should the Bible, Torah, Quran or other religious texts be taught as works of literature in public schools? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I don't think they should be taught in public schools. Religions are meant to be taught at churches or holy places.
Is interfaith dialogue important? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I think is very important it strengthens your faith.
Do you feel comfortable discussing your faith with others? Why/why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I feel fairly comfortable talking about my faith. I know the basics of my denomination to explain what it is.
Are religious beliefs compromised by engaging in politics? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Sometimes it can slightly change what you think about your faith which is a problem.
Has 9/11 had any impact on your thoughts about religion? Are you more/less interested in learning about other religions? Do you feel more/less comfortable expressing your religious beliefs? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator This hasn't caused me to want to learn more about other religions however, it has made me more aware of religions do in the world.
