"Deep within us all there is an amazing inner sanctuary of the soul, a holy place, a Divine Center, a speaking Voice, to which we may continously return. Eternity is at our hearts, pressing upon our time-torn lives, warming us with intimations of an astounding destiny, calling us home unto Itself. Yielding to these persuasions, gladly committing ourselves in body and soul, utterly and completely to the Light within, is the beginning of Life." Thomas Kelly

How Do You Imagine God?
God in America and USA WEEKEND Magazine are partnering to explore Americans' images of God.

How do you imagine God? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator My knowing of G-D has been through my experience in relationship with Him. I know Him as loving, caring, and kind. He is patient, not boastful, or proud. He is not self-seeking, not easily angered though I have been angry with Him. He keeps no records of wrongs. Evil pains Him, and He is thrilled with the truth. He protects my soul, He always hopes. He always perseveres. He never fails. He knows and loves me fully. He understands me completely. He treats me with respect and dignity. With Him, I have never been alone.

My Beliefs

I believe ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I am fully known and loved by G-D. You are, too.
My most powerful moment of belief was ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator My most powerful moment of belief was also my greatest moment of doubt. It happened when I came face to face with my grief over the death of my parents. I imagined a table, and all of the things that I had been taught about God, and believed about God, were on the table. Suddenly, everything was swept away. The only things that I was able to put back on the table were God is G-D. He brought all things into being, including me. Jesus, was His incarnation. Everything else was up for grabs. What I found through this process was, G-D is not afraid of my doubting. G-D wants me to ask the hard questions.G-D is with me as I wrestle through what I believe. Whether I believe or not, He stills loves me. No matter how I may feel about Him, His attitude and actions toward me are always loving, and caring. I have a hint of how much He values me.
My spiritual life means... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator everything to me. I cannot be fully human without taking into account my spiritual life. Irenaeus said, "The glory of God is the human being fully alive, and the life of man is to behold God." It is this spiritual connection to G-D which enables us to be connected to all that He created. I am not simply human, I am a human being.
My spiritual role model is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Jesus Christ. He lived his human life as a reflection of the character of G-D.
The tenet/practice/teaching I appreciate most about my faith is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator grace. We live in a world that is suffering from the consequences of evil. This world, this life is not what it was intended to be. When I see the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, I hear Him saying this--"I have come into this world to be with you. I have not abandoned you, you are not alone. I understand completely everything that you have gone, and are going through. I have taken it upon myself. What is on the other side of this life is so worth it. I share in your pain, and bring you joy."

My Faith History

My spiritual journey has been ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator a journey of wonder. Many years ago I felt as if G-D asked me the question,"You have tasted life, do you want all the life I have for you?". Answering "yes" to that question had led me on a road that has taken me places that I never could have imagined. I am being filled in ways that I never could have dreamed of. I am connecting with people and with G-D in ways that I never knew were possible. It has not been an easy road. It has been difficult and challenging, many times filled with tears, doubt and fear. Yet, I would not trade the experiences and the lessons that I have learned when I choose to follow where God was taking me. He took and is taking me to all the places I need to go, in order to be fully who He made me to be. And I continue to take that plunge every day.
I was raised as ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator in the Latin American Free Methodist denomination. While in junior high I attended an Assembly of God church. In high school I attended a Wesleyan Methodist Church. In college I went to a Baptist church and Calvary Chapel church. As an adult, I have attended a church in the Swedish Covenant Denomination. I have enjoyed visiting Episcopalian and Catholic Churches as well as visiting a Synogogue for a period of time.

How I Practice My Faith

Where and when do you practice your faith? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator My faith is based on a relationship with G-D. Each moment is an opportunity to connect with G-D and to fully engage in life. I remember a movie, "Tortilla Soup", where one of the characters discribed drinking a glass of wine. To fully enjoy the wine, you smell it, you taste it, you see it, by clinking your glass you hear it, by holding the glass you feel it. You engage all of your senses. Living life, fully engaged, taking time use all of my senses. connects me to the Holy. In addition to daily being aware of G-D's presence with me, I have spiritual practices which I follow: Reading Scripture, silence and solitude, journaling, meeting together on Sundays, keeping a Sabbath day, and additional ways of praying or talking to G-D.
The song/book/film that most represents my faith is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I have two songs that speak to me. BE THOU MY VISION-Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art. Thou my best thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light. Be Thou my Wisdom, Thou my true Word; I ever with Thee, Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I thy true son; Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one. Be Thou my battle-shield, sword for my fight, Be Thou my dignity, Thou my delight. Thou my soul's shelter, Thou my high tower. Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power. Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise, Thou mine inheritance, now and always: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art. High King of heaven, my victory won, May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heav'ns Son! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be my vision, O ruler of all.

Religion & the Public Square

Do you feel that you have a duty, because of your faith, to put your beliefs into action? What are some of those actions? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator My faith is based on the belief that G-D created human beings in G-D's image. This means that all human beings should be treated with respect and dignity being created in the image and likeness of G-D. G-D loves and cares for all human beings and all of creation. In living out my faith, I try as much as possible to treat human beings and creation with the respect, care, dignity, and love that it deserves.
