God in America and USA WEEKEND Magazine are partnering to explore Americans' images of God.

How do you imagine God? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I imagine God as an energy that pervades and permeates the entire universe, from the most distant stars down to the tiniest particles of matter. I imagine this force connecting all of us, all of life, and each an every one of us as part of this fantastic ocean of love. 1 person liked this

My Faith History

As a child I believed ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator whatever my parents told me. Being raised Catholic in the 1950s and 60s, we were taught that only Catholics were God's people. I remember being round 9 years old and my mother telling me that only Catholics will see the face of God at death. I remember asking her what would happen to her good friend Ruth, who was not a Catholic, whom my mother loved and who was a great lady. My mother could not think of an answer that would satisfy me or her. Thus began my journey away from the Church.
Are your beliefs or practices different from your parents? If so, how and why? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I retain none of the beliefs my parents held. I have completely rejected the notion of an anthropomorthic God.

How I Practice My Faith

Where and when do you practice your faith? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I practice my faith each day by trying to show compassion and kindness to all people, animals and life. I praise creation when I take walks in the woods or hike in the mountains.
Does your family practice more than one religion or faith? If so, how do you blend the traditions? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator At one point when raising my children, during their teens they were all of 4 different relitions and practicing: Christian, Buddhist, Wiccan and Atheist. Currently, they all lean towards nature based religions such as practiced by Native Americans and South american Shamans, with a little of Buddhism thrown in!
The song/book/film that most represents my faith is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator The church that I love best is small, It is no grand pretentious hall Set round with works of holy art-- It is the chamber of my heart. Where else but in this secret place May I catch glimpses of Truth's face, And even catch, however dim, A sense of being one with Him? I have no church until I find Holiness in my own mind; Once found, wherever I may be Becomes the house of God for me. --James Dillet Freeman
