My Beliefs

My most powerful moment of belief was ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator When I almost died at age 7 and God gave me a choice, whether I wanted to live and be strong or die.
My greatest moment of doubt was ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator when I didn't know where my daughter was for over 4 months
My spiritual life means... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator everything to me. Without God my life would have no meaning.
The biggest misconception about my faith/belief system is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator That faith is for the "weak." Faith makes you strong and confident and full of joy, with a purposeful and full life.
My spiritual role model is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Jesus Christ. He came down from heaven so that we might have life to the fullest and be redeemed. He shows what true love and compassion is. If we can become a little bit like Jesus, all of us, we can change the world.
The tenet/practice/teaching I appreciate most about my faith is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator that its lasted over 2000 years. The Catholic Church is far from perfect, but despite the mistakes humans have made, it remains a force for good in the world. This tells me that the Holy Spirit truly is guiding the church. 1 person liked this

My Faith History

As a child I believed ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator that there was a God, but without any formal training, I didn't really know him. I just thought why would he make me so sick as a child, what had I ever done to him?
My spiritual journey has been ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator A struggle as a child and young adult, but once I found and understood Jesus and was baptized at age 30 it has been a wonderful and sometimes surprising journey that has led me to do his will every day of my life, through my ministry and who I have become. God loves me and I am a child of God.
I was raised as ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I was not raised with any religion, but my parents taught me the Golden Rule, Treat others as you'd like to be treated.
Are your beliefs or practices different from your parents? If so, how and why? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Very different. I know my mother was baptized a Catholic, but I don't think her family ever went to church. My father was not even baptized.
If you have children, did becoming a parent change your relationship to faith? If so, how? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Not really. My daughter was 12 when I was baptized. I actually had had her baptized as an infant as a Catholic, as her father's family was Catholic, but we never went to church.

How I Practice My Faith

Where and when do you practice your faith? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I practice my faith at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Belmont and at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Redwood City, California. I ministered at Mt. Carmel for ten years before becoming the Pastoral Associate at Immaculate Heart of Mary. I go to church almost daily.
Does your family practice more than one religion or faith? If so, how do you blend the traditions? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator No, my husband and I are both Catholic, while our extended family doesn't usually attend church

Religion & the Public Square

What should be the role of religion in politics? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I really can't understand how a politician that claims to be a Catholic (or whatever) can in conscience vote against what their faith teaches them. If you've had a conversion, faith becomes a part of who you are and you shouldn't be able to separate them.
Should courses about religion be taught in public schools? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator No. We need to keep the church and state separate. However, our country was founded on Religious values, our first text books were Bibles and now I see our country becoming so liberal that everything and anything goes
Should the Bible, Torah, Quran or other religious texts be taught as works of literature in public schools? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator None of those books are works of literature - they are written for a specific purpose and that is to pass on the faith. We would be expecting too much of our teachers to be objective and I don't think that's fair. Also, children can so easily be swayed by a charismatic individual. Faith should be left to the family.
Is interfaith dialogue important? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Absolutely - if we know each other it helps us be compassionate and understanding. Knowledge and truth is freedom. During the Holocaust, the first meaningful interfaith dialogues took place in the concentration camps, and people learned that in many ways we are all alike and want freedom and happiness.
Do you feel comfortable discussing your faith with others? Why/why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Absolutely, as part of my ministry I do that all the time and I often have to try to help people who are struggling with faith and values. I love sharing what God has done for me
Do you feel that you have a duty, because of your faith, to put your beliefs into action? What are some of those actions? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator absolutely - if I believe Jesus died for me and for my sins on the cross out of gratitude how can I not become his hands and feet and mouth in this world. It brings me great joy to help anyone I can.
Are religious beliefs compromised by engaging in politics? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator They are by many people, but I don't think they should be. If you are a judge, you have to rule according to the law, but if your a politician you should rule with your heart and for what is best for the people you serve. In Scriptures, a King is defined as someone who worships God first and serves the people he rules. Our civil servants have forgotten the servant part.
Has 9/11 had any impact on your thoughts about religion? Are you more/less interested in learning about other religions? Do you feel more/less comfortable expressing your religious beliefs? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator It forced me to look more at the Muslim faith and I have actually had Muslims who converted to Catholicism from Middle Eastern countries. What most of them have said is that the {true) Muslim faith is good, but because it has become a state sanctioned religion, the government uses it to oppress the people 1 person liked this
