It's not what we do that determines who we are. It's who we are, that determines what we do. (Dr. Neil Anderson)

How Do You Imagine God?
God in America and USA WEEKEND Magazine are partnering to explore Americans' images of God.

How do you imagine God? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I picture him as agape, a force that would change everything, everywhere, if only we would let him. I picture Jesus.

My Beliefs

I believe ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator God created everything we could possibly need, before He created us. I believe He was demoted by the freewill of mankind in the beginning. I believe Jesus demonstrated how life can be, by allowing God to be God. I believe He loves us, dwells with us, heals us, teaches us, one on one, up close and personal like...again, if we let Him.
My most powerful moment of belief was ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator when He literally woke me up and lifted me out of depression.
My greatest moment of doubt was ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator when my mother died.
My spiritual life means... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator everything. Without it, I'm not really alive.
The biggest misconception about my faith/belief system is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator that we are better, that it's ok to judge others, that we're an exclusive "social club" instead of the inclusive body of Christ. That we still have a list of rules and things to accomplish before we can experience God and that those who haven't accomplished them should be kicked out of the "club."
My spiritual role model is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Jesus. Once our training is complete, we will be like our teacher. It's in the book of Luke, somewhere.

My Faith History

As a child I believed ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator In Jesus, but more as a distant, demanding God who was watching and waiting on me to mess up, then squash me like a bug.
My spiritual journey has been ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator most bazaar to say the least. God is real, and it takes some real experiences with Him to develop intimacy.
I was raised as ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Christian.
Are your beliefs or practices different from your parents? If so, how and why? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Somewhat different, in that I'm not as legalistic with myself as my mother was.
If you have children, did becoming a parent change your relationship to faith? If so, how? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I didn't. Should have, but didn't. Now, I see my child as God's best ever gift to me.

How I Practice My Faith

Where and when do you practice your faith? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator In my heart.
Does your family practice more than one religion or faith? If so, how do you blend the traditions? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator No mix here.
How easy or difficult is it to live your faith? Why? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator It's only difficult when I choose to eat of the wrong fruit...you know, the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. That's when I judge my self out of the "club."
In my house, the thing that most represents my faith is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator the people living here.
The song/book/film that most represents my faith is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I'd have to say my own books: The Life Cycle and The Great Majestic Fortress.

Religion & the Public Square

What should be the role of religion in politics? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I don't know that religion has a role, but God should have the lead.
Should courses about religion be taught in public schools? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Awareness should be taught, but experience is most important. Do they experience God when they encounter the faculty?
Should the Bible, Torah, Quran or other religious texts be taught as works of literature in public schools? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator It's possible they should know the truth, but not be forced to believe in anything, as if that were possible.
Is interfaith dialogue important? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I think so. How can we NOT have a dialogue with others and call ourselves Christians?
Do you feel comfortable discussing your faith with others? Why/why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I probably discuss it too much.
Do you feel that you have a duty, because of your faith, to put your beliefs into action? What are some of those actions? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I only have a duty to live what I learn from God, teach others if He directs me to do so.
Are religious beliefs compromised by engaging in politics? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Seems to be true in many cases, although it certainly doesn't have to be.
Has 9/11 had any impact on your thoughts about religion? Are you more/less interested in learning about other religions? Do you feel more/less comfortable expressing your religious beliefs? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Absolutely. I've given it much thought and it seems every problem we have, included 911, was caused by something somebody said.
