Juneau, Alaska
Glacier Blue - Concerto for Violin and Big Band is
described by composer Evan Solot as a celebration of "the
wonderful diversity of Alaska, the natural beauty, rugged
challenges of the landscape, the down-to-earth folks and the
sense of other-worldliness. I wanted to capture these disparate
elements in this hybrid piece, pitting a lone virtuoso classical
violinist against a big jazz band. The melodic development
is in the classical tradition and there is plenty of groove-based
theme and variations. The band and the soloist support one
another, wrestle, tease and dance."
