Culver City, California
The American Jazz Philharmonic, under the leadership of Music
Director Jack Elliott, is a 72-piece symphonic jazz ensemble
based in Los Angeles. The ensemble sought a composer who could
integrate jazz, orchestral, and Latin influences to reflect
the diverse Southern California community. Thomas Oboe Lee's
new work, Symphony No. 3: Portraits in Jazz, did just
that in its premiere at the Cerritos Center. The commission
was performed again by the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra,
the educational program of the AJP.
