Composer-in-residence Jennifer Higdon's Freedom Dreams, a new overture celebrating families of choice, was especially created for the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band. Conducted by Jadine Louie, the world premiere of the work took place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts's Ol' Fashioned 4th of July Alternative Family Picnic, the annual Independence Day program featuring Sousa marches, speeches, Dixieland jazz, contests and games.
