Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Christopher Roberts's composition, The Channel, was inspired by recent migration of Micronesian, Melanesian, and other Western Pacific music traditions to Kainaliu. Evoking the ocean passage, the ebb and flow of currents can be heard and felt in the music. The piece was commissioned and performed by Kona Community Chorus and Orchestra, with Young Voices of the Pacific youth chorus, members of the Kona Children's Chorus, as well as children newly arrived in the Kona community.
