In the Chinese calendar, the year 2000 is represented by the dragon, the mythical creature that is the symbol of the Chinese people. The world premiere dance-drama, Descendants of the Dragon, by two eminent Chinese artists, choreographer Shen Pei and composer Zhang Ying, vividly portrays folk traditions from an entire cycle of the Chinese calendar. With more than one hundred performers in this seventy-five minute, four-act work, it is an unprecedented achievement in community arts across America.
