Alto, New Mexico
The Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts, located on a
remote mesa in southern New Mexico, was the site of an original
musical work, Keepers of the Land, reflecting the distinctive
contributions the area's three primary cultures--Native, Hispanic
and Anglo--have made to the life of the community. Composer
Jerré Tanner created the work in partnership with local artists
immersed in the traditions of these cultures.
