The Society for New Music's project, Dance Mix, included a residency in the public schools, as well as a commissioned work for chamber ensemble with percussion. Scored for two trumpets, two saxophones, two trombones (one bass), amplified double bass, and four percussionists, resembling a 'Tower of Power' jazz-style big band or blues/rock group, composer Rob Smith's work is energetic, bright, and rhythmic. Participating in the premiere were six percussionists from Cazenovia High School.
