Johnson City, Tennessee
Composer Daniel Kingman's Appalachian Harmony, written
for the East Tennessee Children's Choir, vocalist, guitar
and fiddle, draws upon such diverse influences as the Cherokee
heritage, the nineteenth-century folk hymn tradition of The
Southern Harmony, Anglo-Scottish ballad singing, African-American
praise songs, and mountain fiddling. Commissioned by the Johnson
City Area Arts Council, the work celebrates the people and
history of this beautiful region at the edge of the Great
Smoky Mountains.
