Pamela
Wight
Ecotourism
Consultant
Pamela Wight studied geography
at the University of Alberta, Canada and environmental
management in Aberdeen, Scotland before embarking on her
career as a consultant in the relatively new field of
ecotourism. Since 1974, she has assisted city, provincial
and national governments develop their tourism resources in
such a way as to preserve the culture and natural resources
that attract travelers. In her job, she helps communities
improve their destination appeal, and develops strategies
for improved international competitiveness for the overall
provincial tourism product.
Her assignments vary from
large-scale planning projects in tourist centers like Banff,
Canada, to smaller projects in remote areas of the
Caribbean. She is an internationally recognized author and
workshop leader in the realms of sustainable tourism,
ecotourism, "greening" of tourism facilities, and resource
conservation issues, and strategies and tools to deal with
resource impact and visitor management issues.
