South Central/Gulf Coast Region:
Long Island

The expedition visited a farm on Long Island near Kodiak where 1000 arctic foxes of the blue variety were being raised for their fur. Fur farmers had attempted to raise the silver-black variety, but had failed because silver-blacks will only eat fresh meat. Blue foxes were content to eat dried fish, and, in fact, congregated at their feeding troughs as mealtime approached.
