Mariachi Sol de Mexico

Mariachi Sol de Mexico

The first mariachis to be nominated for a Grammy, Mariachi Sol de Mexico is directed by Jose Hernandez whose family has been performing mariachi music for five generations. He has been performing along with his five brothers since the tender age of three. His fluent mastery of the medium has led him to assist in many film scores and compose, arrange, produce and tour internationally to universally sold-out audiences. Jose arranged and produced "Tu Solo Tu" from Selena's Dreaming of You album, which established a new record for Billboard magazine and set a historic precedent for traditional ranchero music.

Mariachi Sol de Mexico has traveled the world and played in first class venues with the most respected artists. They have recorded 12 CDs and became the first mariachi to be nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2001. They have participated in more than 20 Hollywood soundtracks, including Seabiscuit. They have played at the Academy Awards and toured the United States on the classical music circuit. They are the first and only mariachi group to perform in China and North Korea. In May 2005, they were invited to perform for President George W. Bush at the White House.

Mariachi Sol de Mexico represents 125 years of mariachi tradition. The Cielito Lindo restaurant in South El Monte is home to the Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez.
