- Filmmaker Jordan Mechner says: “The feeling of nostalgia for the vanished places of our childhood is an emotion everyone can relate to.” What childhood places do you miss in your life today?
- For many former residents of Chavez Ravine, the loss of their close-knit community was as traumatic as the loss of their homes and property. What are some of the advantages of living in a neighborhood that is “like a big family,” as Sally Anchando says in the film? What are some disadvantages?
- Former Los Angeles city housing official Frank Wilkinson refers to the Chavez Ravine upheaval as a “tragedy for the people” and “the most hypocritical thing that could possibly happen.” Do you agree with him that good intentions can unknowingly be led astray? Why?
