We invite you to respond to the questions below or add your comments. Selected submissions will be posted on our Talkback page, so check back regularly and join the discussion.
  • In DOKI-DOKI, Yumi decides to take a chance and make connections with her fellow commuters, an act that has unexpected results. Have you ever made a similar connection with a stranger? What was the result?

  • Filmmaker Chris Eska says that the concept for DOKI-DOKI “originated in my feelings of isolation while living in Los Angeles. My Japanese friends felt the same way in Tokyo.” Do you agree that large cities foster feelings of isolation and disconnection? Why or why not?

  • Eska hopes that DOKI-DOKI will “oppose stereotypes of Japanese people often portrayed in Western films.” Did watching the film change your perceptions of Japanese culture? If so, how?
