The Foto-Novelas 2 were both touching and visually rich. Excellent work to cast and crew. More Foto-Novelas please!

In the past twenty years, I have seen a significant increase in the (positive) representation of Latinos in film and on TV. I realize there's tremendous room for growth, but it seems as though Latino representation is creeping into the "mainstream" more and more. I'm a strong proponent of seeing that trend continue as there needs to be a strong support system for the beautiful and insightful work of people like Carlos Avila.
I love the Foto-Novella concept and think the format is perfect for TV where people tune-in for short periods of time desiring quick but powerful doses of expression.
These Foto-Novelas are universal, and hence should have a broad appeal within and outside of the Latino community. Change the color of skin or the language portrayed, and the essence is the same -- feelings of hopefulness, love, struggle, family devotion, personal change, and wonderment. These are the things that strike the heart and soul of any human and represent the essence of what unites us.

network television has got in the habit of using non latino actors to play latino parts. This sickens me, especialy when there is obviously so much talent in the latino acting community. A small but extreemly talented cast was brought together by Mr. Avila for both of these films. Victor Campos and Jeremy Ray Valdez are shining examples of super talented old and young leading hispanic actors. We hope to see them both on the big screen. Thank you PBS for having the guts to put real stories about real latinos on the air, what a fresh perspective!

Great story. My fiance Vincent Williams member of Devoneer wrte the song played ("TRAPPED").The scene is when two young men drive up and to the main actor and ask him to hang with them.
Lyrics: "Thoughts flowing through my mind, up all night til the morning sunshine. Everydays the same day, Never give a care about the games I play...sometimes you wanna live, sometimes you want to die...
Wonderful!

Thank you PBS for putting such fine quality shows on the air.
I have recently become a fan of independent work because if it slice of life qualities and these films definately had that. The characters were 3d and I wanted to know more about them. I didn't leave the room the whole hour. I really felt empathy for them.
It's great to see shows about Latinos. I work in a Latino neighborhood and I am very interested in their culture. They are under represented in the media.
Sincerely,
Deborah Hakola

Junkyard Saints was some piece of work. Congratulations to the director Mr. Avila and crew, especially to actor Leon Singer who played the saints keeper. Who is this actor? Where has he been? He is excellent and should be in movies.
Too bad the airing times were murderous. Who watches tv at 2 in the morning?
Thank you.
Roberto.

It was a coincidence that I flipped to the PBS channel and the got the opportunity to observe the short films of "Junkyard Saints" and "Broken Sky" with my mom. The films grabbed our attention and placed us within the world inside the films on the manner that she has lost her parents. We are originally from Mexico D.F. and she was never able to go back due to our status, and then it was too late when we did receive it. It was nice to see the beautiful concept of death that is present within our lives. I would like to say thanks for the consideration of representing our Latino culture with a respectable outlet.

When I was hired to act in this film project, I had no idea how wonderful the finished product would be. Hats off to Mr. Carlos Avila for producing two more brilliantly crafted dramas that is not only emotionally gripping and delightfully entertaining, but powerful in it's ability to transport and transcend the viewer's mind to a higher realm of human understanding far greater than our cultural differences.

Beautiful. It's not often that one sees portrayals of REAL Latinos (or any other ethic group, for that matter) on TV. These Foto-Novelas remind of the best of the "small" Australian films often referred to as "everyday tales"; in that the people and events are real, down to earth folks like the ones we work with, our friends, (and enemies) and families. And it's nice to see Robert Beltran again.

I really enjoyed Foto Novelas, especially "Broken Sky." It had a spiritual quality to it which was sad for Rodrigo when his wife perished in the plane fire, but beautiful in the end for him when his spitit could rejoin her.

I want to thank you, Mr. Avila and crew, for that wonderful story: "Broken Sky". I have never experienced Foto-Novelas before tonight and I was captivated by this particular episode. I'm not only excited about having "found" this series but, I look forward to experiencing many more episodes. I'm only sorry that my "discovery" did not come sooner. You see, I do not watch TV; for many reasons. Except for a few stations, many choose to run "junk TV". It saddens me. Thank you again & PBS/KCET. Especially for this episode that has left an impression on my life forever. Maria

These were two very powerful, compact, and fascinating works. Carlos Avila is one of the strongest, most interesting, young filmmakers out there.

It was an adventure being part of the "Broken Sky" production as an extra (4-03). Prestige opportunities as this don't come very often, so I cherished the moments and reveled in the delights of "behind the scenes"! As an aspiring film student, I see it rewarding to have a part in the ever expanding horizon of Latinos in visual production. Portraying the very persons involved in such a travisty made the feeling more powerful in ways one cannot imagine. Thumbs way up to the Cast and Crew (and catering!) for a job well done! Hard work does payoff!

I would like to say "Hola" to all my fellow extras cast and Sheila, this is it - our time to shine has come!

Carlos Avila is quite simply one of the finest emerging film directors, Latino or otherwise, of our time.
This past Tuesday I had the pleasure of attending a sneak preview of his most recent installments in the Foto-Novelas series on PBS.
These are Mr. Avila's finest work to date. So sit yourself down or set your VCR, but please, don't miss the show!

Many people have been looking forward to Robert's next appearence. He's been very vague about it, saying that he plays " a guy " and not giving us more details about it, with that crook smile meaning "you'll have to wait for it". lol
Can't wait to see it too. His 2 minutes appearence in CSI wasn't enough.
Like Sara says, a trully wonderful actor with a great acting spirit. Haven't seen someone like that in a long shot.
